I have found a bug:
bird slayer talismans work on turkeys, but bird protection property does not work at all to mitigate their damage to characters.

Yeah, when it insta kills you its a pain in the ass, but you can still kill the giant turkey without to much of a hassle.

Yes, they can still be killed, I just think that insta-kill is a bad mechanic. I can understand hitting hard, for 50-75% life, but lethal 1 shot is kind of silly. In general, I feel monsters that hit hard (but not lethal) that are very tanky and take a while to kill that have abilities with flavor (suit the type of monster) are the the best designed.newguy wrote:Yeah, when it insta kills you its a pain in the ass, but you can still kill the giant turkey without to much of a hassle.

Still tweaking the turkeys for their damage and abilities. They are mostly recycled from a few Thanksgivings ago as more concentration is being put on the Halloween event this year.
I have taken into consideration the suggestions and ideas posted about changes to the turkey spawn and loot packs. These ideas will be used to revise the second wave of Thanksgiving in November.

Sounds good. I look forward to the changes. The bird protection talisman will be nice to use to help mitigate the damage once that bug is fixed.Death wrote:Still tweaking the turkeys for their damage and abilities. The bird protection and killer properties on talismans are misleading, but it's working properly and is not a bug.d. wrote: Sounds good. I look forward to the changes. The bird protection talisman will be nice to use to help mitigate the damage once that bug is fixed.
The protection and killer properties on a talisman relate to a single mobile type and any child derivations of the same type.
For example, a sea serpent killer talisman would only ever apply specifically to the mobile known as "a sea serpent". It would not apply to a deep sea serpent, leviathan or crystal sea serpent as those are all completely different in stats and abilities compared to an actual "sea serpent".
When you get bird killer and bird protection on a talisman, it does not mean every type of bird is going to be affected by it. The bird it is referring to is actually the "bird" mobile.
When you go around and see cuckoo, terns, woodpeckers, robins, jungle birds etc etc around the world, that is what you have killer or protection against. All those birds are part of the same class mobile "bird", they are just swapping hues and names when one spawns.

Bird would be a broad term. "Bird Protection" I would expect to protect from all birds. Last time I checked, a turkey is a bird. Makes sense to me, but maybe I was lied to as a child and turkeys aren't actually birds.Death wrote:The bird protection and killer properties on talismans are misleading, but it's working properly and is not a bug.d. wrote: Sounds good. "Bird Slayer" property works this way. Things like turkeys and swoops are affected by it. So why is the "bird protection" property not the same? It just doesn't seem consistent.

That's just the thing. The labels for the protection and killer can be misleading. If I were to spawn the mobile it refers to, you would get a bunch of woodland birds. You wouldn't suddenly get a phoenix or a harpy. It applies specifically to one class mobile and any derived child of the same type. If there were an acid slime killer, it would only ever apply to the "acid slime" mobile, not every slime that is acidic.d. wrote: Bird would be a broad term. If you have a killer or protection property on a talisman, it applies to a specific monster or creature, not a generic type of monster or creature.

I would understand if that was the case, but the point I am making is that the "Bird Slayer" talisman does effect swoops/turkeys. It is odd for the slayer to work on them but for the protection not too.Death wrote:[If you have a killer or protection property on a talisman, it applies to a specific monster or creature, not a generic type of monster or creature.
So I think the wording on either the slayer or protection needs to be changed to clarify. Because as of right now the slayer is acting as a super slayer (like reptile or repond) but the protection property is the specific.

I agree that something should be done to word these things to avoid any confusion. For now though, here's the basic rundown:d. wrote: I would understand if that was the case, but the point I am making is that the "Bird Slayer" talisman does effect swoops/turkeys. The name next to the protection or killer property applies only to that specific monster or creature. If it says "slime" killer, it is exactly that. It does not affect frost ooze, acid slimes etc etc it is specifically the "slime" monster.

As there have been a lot of voiced opinions on the difficulty VS reward spectrum of the Thanksgiving event, I thought it best to bring to light some of the problems to fix for the next run:
- Giant turkeys are too difficult and need to be toned down with a complete reworking of their abilities
- Tokens should drop in the pack of the killer and not on the corpse as it's difficult to riffle through them while running away from other turkeys
- Multiplying turkeys should be removed or reduced (probably removed as it's unpredictable)
- Loot packs are junky so needs to be changed up

Multiplying turkeys have always been what have kept me away from this event. It was always a guessing game as to whether you would be able to loot your kill, or if you were going to have to kill 3 more turkeys while your previous kill decayed, with all its loot.
Preferably would be a turkey champ spawn. Or a progressive spawn whereas one player would kill a lesser, then a regular, and then a greater turkey. In that case, upon death, the current target would convert into the next level of turkey.
Also, I, personally, would prefer something other than roulette tokens as a reward. I would like to see something related to the event, and that would be discontinued as soon as the event ended. Similar to the EM event items from the OSI shards. But that is my personal opinion.
Regardless...if the turkeys are a pain in the butt, at least you can kill a chicken quickly if you are hungry.
Happy Thanksgiving

There was no time to code the new items for the first run of the Thanksgiving event. Initially wanted to put cornucopias in with auto-recharging but couldn't squeeze them in (possibly next run).
That being said, the first run was mostly recycled from old Thanksgiving events with the new turkey looks so a bunch of improvements will have to be made for the next run.

I liked that they multiplied, beat running around looking for more.
Could get a little crazy sometimes, but the only issue ever seemed to be maybe not getting to loot them all before they started to decay, but if they didn't multiply they wouldnt have all been there to loot anyway

I feel the same way. I LOVE the fact that they multiplied. It could get crazy, but it was balanced. I honestly would love to see tram be less populated by turkeys, and fel yew have a ton more of them. Then those that could handle a few could go to tram yew, and more experienced players could do fel (and do more turkeys + tango with each other.)ggkthx wrote:I liked that they multiplied, beat running around looking for more.

The loot on normal turkeys sucks, but the multiplying turkeys have a perfect loot pack (decent gold, around 2500, + high intensity items.) The loot packs of those don't need to be upgraded at all in my opinion.
Regarding the giant turkeys: Maybe they could be toned down a lot more on the damaged. They then could have their health buffed up by a good margin (200-300%), and then when hit or cast upon they could have a chance to spawn turkeys like orc brutes spawn orcs. This would really balanced them out in my opinion. Isn't that how they kind of used to be?
