I've had cases at work where there is an open neutral. The neutral not tied to ground because of a break in the line and there was 70v AC induced on a wire that was hooked up to nothing. Electro magnetic fields. Who would've thunk it. That's why neutrals and grounds are tied to earth ground.

Electricity is my life...................................
Dig it.

Really? So if I put a super long wire accross miles I could actually get a big voltage on it like that? Did not figure so much energy was in magnetic fields and air waves. I know it's enough to power a small radio using a small coper wire as antena though since I've done it before.

Electricity can be your friend, but can also be your ennemy. I know both sides of it. :D

No. The Induced voltage on the neutral is from the 120 volts on the hot lead. The 2 wires are run together, side by side. They have to be close. It also depends on the quality of your meter. You might be getting a false reading.

Interesting fact. Where there are electric arc furnaces with very large amounts of AC voltage and current, people with steel artificial joints and pace makers are not allowed to work. The electromagnetic fields create heat......ouch. Hot joints.
I'm talking VERY large amounts of AC Electricity. Enough to melt steel.

I'm still on dial-up. I'm going broadband this spring/summer. My choices are. DSL($35/month), Wireless($40/month) or Cable($56/month).
They're all much much faster than dial-up. DSL is the slowest of the 3 and Cable is the fastest. So I've read.
What do you think?
What kind of connections do you all have? :sherlock:
Really. What kind of connections do you all have? And do you like them?
:Dunno:

God ADSL. It used to be super good, (though not as fast as advertised, but that goes for almost any isp) but lately they've sucked. Well since that 5mbps "upgrade" it often goes down or goes really slow.

But in general I'm happy with it. Sure beats 56K, and at least I don't have to dial in, I just go straight online.
