Wow, the router part should be first. NEVER, put a new PC (espcially a networking OS like win2k/xp) directly to the internet.

Yeah-

the word is that at a minimum you should have the firewall turned on

I ALWAYS install some kind of antivirus too---FIRST. ;)

New installation for me, I just leave the PC unconnected from the network and install all the service packs off a CD before anything else. Really, you do that first and Windows won't be compromised automagically :lol:
