Issue with pc
I got a issue with my pc, which goes like this:
1. my norton doesnt start up, i click it once(in start menu) nothing happens, i click it again shortly after and it brings up the nortons main menus frames, but its missing all the buttons and so, and it stays there. And doesnt shutdown if not shhut down at proccesses menu or whatever its called.
2. i cant connect to msn it gives me some weird error and says that it might be my firewall, it cant be my norton as it isnt starting. i turn my windows firewall off and it still shows in control panel that iam using a firewall. And thing is, as far as i know i dont have any additional firewalls or so.
3. When i start my pc it says "drive not ready" and it gives me options to try again, continue and cancel. When it goes to desktop it freezes and doesnt load the icons(i can still do the ctrl+alt+del and bring up that thing) and after a little while it loads them icons too, its just slow.
Now my pc is fairly new, and no its not a crap one. The thing i think is causing this is becouse i ran huge virus/adware checks before today and deleted quite bunch of viruses, trackers and stuff.
just incase youre wondering what programs i used:
Ad-Aware SE
E scan
Spybot search & destroy
I also installed spywareblaster but it didnt work so i uninstalled it.
Now i know it is something i did as it hasnt done this before this, but as far as i know there programs should do their job pretty well.
Ive checked what are the processes iam running currently and theres nothing whats harmfull or counted as one(i googled for all the .exes), ive tried to restart my pc and it does this same thing always.
Iam asking this here cause i know here are bunch of people that know about pc's, and i want to get this fixed.
So, help me if you know the solution or got some idea to fix it.
and no this doesnt prevent me from logging to uo

I can not tell for sure, but it sounds like you got some kind of virus. Lot of viruses will disable your AV and screw up other security programs.

It's hard to really suggest much without seeing your computer. When you ran spybot... did you tell it to run at next startup so that it searches for and fixes things before all the other processes startup? If you have the disks for your Norton software, maybe you can try uninstalling it to see if that helps, and reinstall it.

Seems like uninstalling the "leagal" 2004 norton what the dude who put my pc together installed and then installing a norton 2002 free tryout cd what i found at god knows where(un opened also ) and then upgdating it to the latest fixed the problem. 180days of virus protection now, after that i buy the real thing for sure.
Other thing iam having trouble with is that i cant get the 'log in' screen not to come, you know, the one where you select the account you want to log into, how i get it not to appear?

Search for TweakUI for your windows version. Install it and then go launch it in the Control Panel. It will have an option to auto-log in a user.Finlander wrote:Okay new issue, i didnt do anything and this happened: iamapp.exe is using 99% of my cpu, and many sites i found with google state its norton thing and its harmless, however its slowing the shit out of my pc

1. GET RID OF NORTON! It is garbage, and is only known for destroying files needed to run your PC, and it attracts more virus's then it gets rid of. I can't stress this enough, that Norton is GARBAGE.
2. You may or may not have turned your internet explorer to "work offline" without knowing it. This will cause MSN to not connect properly. Start up IE, and check your settings to make sure its not set to offline mode.
3. Sounds like a massive hard drive issue. Could definitely have been caused by a virus, or it might just be that its getting older, and corrupt, and dieing on you. Remember, this is a computer, and just like anything else when it gets older, it will die.
My reccomendation, if you're running Windows XP is to do a system restore to about 2-3 weeks ago. This will remove any installed programs, including some virus installers, and other malicious software that might be on your computer.

Issue with pc
i ran spybot search and destroy and it found 3 items in my windows folder what were called something like this: firewalldisabler, antivirusoverride, and somethign else which was also affecting to norton. I deleted them all and now i started windows again, cpu at 0-2% but i turned my norton off. Dunno if i dare to turn it on .
I also did this before running the check on spybot: start->my computer->properties->system restore and marked it off.
Cause at nortons site help it stated that this might be preventing the virus to get deleted.
About norton i dont think its garbage, it has been working since i got this pc and it has worked really well, i just didnt have the latest updates as i had ran out of the time.
Iam running eScan now, after its finished i run spybot again, then boot and see if norton works.
About my pc getting old, i got this last winter so i dont think its that

After spybot search and destroy i found 2 new viruses, trojan downloader being one of them, eScan found 7 new infections, 2 of them being trojan stuff and rest counted as not so harmfull (meaning adware prolly) and i think i deleted those with the spybot. Anyways eScan was able to remove the trojan horse and the downloader, it also wanted to reboot.
and now, everythign seems to be working, cpu at 0-2% and no weird named stuff at proccesses, and norton is running now.
Going to run a update on my norton and then scan for viruses with it too prolly

If you want to be safe, backup all your stuff (should be doing that regularly anyway) and reformat/reinstall. Often some viruses will leave traces and possibly strike back. I've fixed 100's of people's virus infected PCs and often I have to manually tear out some viruses from the system.
