Some file was not chmodded to 777 so everytime someone went to vote for a site it would error out and no one ever reported it. This was causing sites to disapear from the list because it was not able to rewrite it back after removing it (so it can put it back on top). I now fixed the problem. That's the only thing I have about Linux hosting - stupid chmod. It causes so many problems. The issue is that files tend to switch by themselves so for something such as top sites that I don't look at often, problems don't get fixed until long.

Stuff such as server moves often screw up the chmods of files. Anyway, it's fixed now.

Well I still find it ennoying. It should be like in Windows where you can write to any file at any time. It's not like it makes it more secure, if a hacker can crack into the ftp server to upload a malicious script, it can also chmod the files to what it wants.

not necessarily. There is a reason for chmoding and having enough permissions to "chmod", sometimes you can't even change the permissions on your own files!

It happends to me sometimes, very ennoying. I have to download the file, delete it remotely, then upload it back and set it back to 777.
