Wow that's pretty cool. But they did not mention anything about hooking it up to something in space, as it is something they will have to do otherwise the weight will pull it back to earth, as the part of it that will be in gravity will put quite a tension on it. But that is really cool! I never actually considered that, a cable/string from earth to space. It's a very simple concept and will save in the long run and be safe, unless it snaps.
