More information found on history of blackrock in Sosaria.

Post by Jaelon the Healer »

I traveled to the library in Britain, to seek out a book I had heard of called, "A Treatise on Alchemy." I thought it may offer some insight into the possibilities of blackrock. Sadly though, it was merely a beginner's guide to the properties of basic reagents.

But I did find some interesting pieces of information in a very old and tattered article from the Sosarian Standard.

Apparently, many years ago, Britain's chief mage, Nystul, travelled throughout Britannia in search of hidden chests containing pieces of blackrock. He also offered rewards to any Sosarian citizens who helped him in this regard.

It seems that there is (or was) an evil guild known as the Followers of Armageddon, originally known as the Zog Cabal. This group thought that Sosaria was tainted and needed to be "cleansed." To achieve these ends, they gathered many pieces of blackrock, with intent to cast a large scale Armageddon spell. Nystul somehow got wind of this scheme, and that is why the pieces of blackrock were hidden throughout Sosaria. The Followers of Armageddon believed that even if Nystul found a few pieces of blackrock, he could never find their entire cache of infectious stones.

The Followers eventually did cast the Armageddon spell, but it was not large enough to cleanse Sosaria of its apparent filth. It did, however, breach the land and open up tunnels to what we now commonly call the Lost Lands.

It is unknown if the Followers were also the culprits behind the destruction of Old Haven, but I would be willing to bet they were involved.

I don't, however, believe the current situation that arose from the meteor in Magincia has anything to do with the Followers of Armageddon. Although I do fear that if news of a new source of blackrock in the land reaches their ears, they may strengthen their forces and attempt to cast Armageddon again with the intent to get it right this time.

Only time will tell.

This also changes my previous belief that the only known contact with blackrock was the case with the miner in Minoc. It is apparently more prolific than the one case. I may need to research Sosarian secret societies to uncover more information.
