crash + database corruption [fixed]

The database randomly corrupted itself for no reason, I've seen this happen before but its first time it happens on the live server.

I'm stuck in College till 4:30 ET so I'll be home at 5:30 so I can't do anything unfortunately.

When I get back I'll restore a backup. Don't think much will be lost.

Sorry about this. Once all ML is in I will consider working on redesigning the RunUO storage engine to make it more reliable.

Ok server is back up, but I have no idea how old this backup is, I'm at college so I can't log in to check the server. If iti's really old, don't worry, I can probably find a newer one. There should not be more then an hour lost.

I don't know why the hell it crashed in first place. Its pure BS.

Just got home.

I think the problem is that it tried to save as the backup job was running. RunUO's DB system is actually that unreliable. I will schedule the backup job to run during SW to prevent this from happening. If the backups come to the point of taking more then 15 minutes then I'll have to set it up so SW lasts even longer, but currently backups are about 3 minutes, it was just a case of very bad luck and timing that it saved at that time.

Edit: this ismore serious then I expected, all characters got deleted, and... FUCK. Don't know what to do anymore. Whoever came up with this "DB system" sucks hardcore at designing data storage systems, and should be shot.

Good news!

I managed to find a somewhat recent backup. I'm very sorry about the losses. I'm basing this on the last thing I did, and i personally did not loose anything but I logged off at around 12:00am and it crashed at 1:00 so I'm really not sure which point at that time the backup is for.

Again, very sorry about this. I will try to figure a way to redesign the save system since it's VERY unreliable the way it is.
