My College PC

So i'm looking at laptops for college. I'm a gamer so I need something that will run my games with a good FPS.
I went to Ibuypower.com and customized one I wanted for around 1.6k. Then I heard from a lot of people that they are very unreliable so I don't want to buy from them.
My father wants me to get a dell or something because he works in IT and he works with dells a lot. The problem is, I can't find one with what I want for a price I can afford.

I know it can be done. I'm willing to spend $1,700 but less would be better of course.

Here's what i'm looking for:
Screen size: 15.4 inches
Proccessor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.63 Ghz or more
Memory: 4GB
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT or better (GTX would be fantastic)
Hard Drive: 320GB or larger (must be 72,000 rpm, 54,000 is too slow)
Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit (I only need the most basic, bare-bones vista. I don't want my 4GB going to waste. If there's a version of XP that can utilize all 4GB then please let me know.)

I've been looking EVERYWHERE and I can't find anyone that will let me customize like this except for ibuypower. An Asus would be great but I can't seem to find a laptop with those specs.

Any help would be appreciated. I've been searching for the past few weeks to no avail.

7200 and 5400. 54 000 would be insanely fast.

The x86-64 edition of Windows XP can handle up to 128 GiB of RAM, although your hardware probably couldn’t.

Most notebooks make it easy to upgrade the RAM and hard drive yourself, so keep that in mind if you find one that’s otherwise perfect. I love my ThinkPad to pieces, but I don’t think they’re for you.

Hopefully solid-state will take over before we get to that point. Can you imagine all the heat and noise from those things?

lol sorry.

I get what you're saying about the ram. But I'm having trouble even finding a PC with just a 2.63 core 2 duo processor and an Nvidia 9800. If I can find that and the ram is upgradeable, then i'll just buy some ram.

no kidding. Though SSDs have a limited life span based on use, while mechanical drives have a (theoricly) unlimited lifespan, and just a chance to fail at random. So whether you use it a lot or not, it wont fail faster. SSDs are good for boot/OS drives though, just make all the logging/variable data get written to a normal drive.

If I had critical data on a SSD I'd probably be sure to do raid 1 with two drives of different age.
