I think so.... I'm surprised Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton haven't shown their opportunistic, corrupt little selves.

Another play of the race card?
Another play of the race card?
BS, and BS.White, who is African-American, maintains he was protecting his family from a white lynch mob and says the gun discharged accidentally.
I don't think it would racism so much as his friend was threatened with rape. . .but that's just me.White's attorneys say that racism lies at the heart of the confrontation and that John White feared Cicciaro and his friends were going to kill his son.
I'm white. And if someone, regardless of race, threatened to rape (joke or not) a close friend, yeah I'd do something about it. Probably not shoot you, but I'd do something. You had this group of white men who felt that they were going to defend this young white woman from a black man who said these things about her, and they felt justified to do so because of his race

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.
Another play of the race card?
I think race played a part in this but it was on both sides. The fact that White was black threw extra fuel on the fire for Cicciaro and his friends, which caused them to be more aggressive than they might have been. Because the Whites were black and Cicciaro and friends were white, and the n word had been used, the White father and son perceived the aggression as racially motivated and akin to a lynch mob, which lead them to step up the aggression as well. These people aren't scared, they are angry, and thus why the police were never called.
So you've got 5 white mean, against 2 black men with guns, and all are ready to rip each others throats out. Someone is going to get hurt. Whether or not the gun went off accidentally is hard to say, there is obviously enough adrenaline flowing for someone to get shot intentionally, but at the same time Mr. White no doubt had his finger tensed up and on the trigger, a hair's breadth away from firing. The slightest jolt and that thing would go off.

Another play of the race card?
The father, being a grown adult, and having ample time to call 5-0 should've known better. Sure, race may have factored in to some degree, but I don't know that it was truly the factor that led events to their conclusion. I think, more than that, Mr. White wanted to be a toughguy with a boomstick and stand up to Cicciaro and friends. A mature adult would have called the cops and gotten his weapon ready in case he needed to use it. The first call Mr. White made was NOT to 911, it was to his lawyer. The guy is a douchebag who deserves to be put away. Oh, and the whole bit about:
I don't believe that Mr. White gleefully pulled the trigger or anything like that, however, I do believe that he made very poor decisions leading up to a person's death. I also think that now after realizing he did something stupid, he's now desperately trying to claw his way out of the hole he's jumped into by making it into a "black man" defending against a "white lynch mob" scenario when that's really not what it was.

I don't know, but it's probably not very likely that even 5 guys would want to go up against 2 guys with guns. I don't believe there was any need or justification for Mr. White to fire. Of course, this is speculation, and I haven't read more recent articles about the situation that may shed more light on it....So you've got 5 white mean, against 2 black men with guns, and all are ready to rip each others throats out.

I'm not saying this was a "I've gotta protect my son from the white lynch mob" deal, I'm saying it's a "I'm gonna show that honky for singling out my son because he's black" deal. I'm saying there was perceived racism by Mr. White which caused a racist backlash of his own. And I emphasize the word perceived. Personally I think that the race issue was less of an factor on the Cicciaro side of things, who was fueled mainly by the rape threat. He may have pulled the n word simply out of anger instead of hate, but I'm not ruling out a bit of racial hatred on his part.Stasi wrote: The father, being a grown adult, and having ample time to call 5-0 should've known better. Now I'm not saying Mr. White wasn't in the wrong here, he was. He should have stayed inside, bolted the door and called the police. And no doubt he's playing up the race card now to try and save his ass. I'm not saying he's not over or misstating the role race had to play, I'm just saying it played an important role.
