Best MOBO / Processor combo???

Post by Anonymous »

I bought my PC in '06 and it has the Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard
and it has the AMD Socket 939 Athlon 64FX/Athlon 64 processor.

It performs decently, but I'm considering upgrading to a more powerful processor and motherboard that can handle more power. I'm currently running XP Pro, but eventually I'll be upgrading to Vista or even the new Windows 7 when it comes out.

So, I'd like to have a motherboard / processor combination that can handle
having at least 8gigs of RAM, 1200+ front side bus, and large cache.

Anyone have suggestions for high end motherboard / processor combos to look at? And, is Intel now the king for fastest processors?

I can't recommend any specifics, but if you plan to go vista, then you may as well save yourself the trouble and stick with what you have. You'll only really see performance increase if you stick with XP. It's like buying a bigger house but also getting way bigger furniture, you'll end up with the same amount of space to move around in. ;)

Also stay away from MSI. Asus all the way. I think the board you have is actually what I had before and it's a decent board.

Also I think Intel is currently the king but TBH I bought Intel not too long ago and I kinda regret it, I should of sticked to AMD. I mean it's great (went quad core) but not THAT great, I expected more. AMD is cheaper too. Asus + AMD goes well together I find.
