Internet Connection Issues
Internet conectivity test
IP:pass
Default gateway:pass
IE's offline settings:pass (I use mozilla but w/e nothing connects.)
Hosts file:pass
Proxy server:pass
Key ports:FAIL
(Messege:Failed to connect to the service. This could be due to improper proxy or firewall settings. Please review your proxy and firewall settings.)
DNS:FAIL
(Messege: Your DNS apears unable to resolve IP addresses)
Ok so for keyports i tryed shutting down my firewall and going direct connect insead of router so i had no firewall. As for proxy im not using any so that is also not an issue.
Anyways if you guys can help well ive got a connection that would be great.
Oh and running the auto repair works but only for a very short time then it goes right back where it started.
Like can i change my DNS or anything that will make the problem go away? Seems to have a connection but cannot get to anything.
... Well i will be back later/tomrrow if i still have a connection

Click one LSPFix
No Problems Found
Click two Microsoft full scan
Cannot run it because the tools download stops at 66% and i did a forum search there and im not the only one with that problem and theres no answer on the help forums to get the download to finish. So i did each one seperatly.
MS Protection scan
Stops at 50% so is probly the cause of full scan stopping.
If you want me scanning with MS for viruses then dont worry about it. I did do an ad-aware scan, updated defenitions first.
Resaults were 7 cookies from IE and that was it. Going by my spyware resaults i think its safe to say i do not have a virus as if you have one virus you normally have the insane spyware to go with it. Last spyware scan was about 6+ months ago (191 days minimum) so there was lots of time for spyware to fill up if i had a virus. I use a router and have a firewall on the pc so i really think im ok in this area. User is normally the problem here and im the only one who uses this computer so no ID10T's to up my pc I have never done a full virus scan on this pc but if a file i download is questionable (Program download from torrent, unknown site, odd file name, etc) Then i will scan the file before using it via online scan.
MS Tune up Scan
C Drive 2% Fragmented OK!
D Drive 20% Recommends defrag but no big deal. LOL
MS Clean up scan
Ok i failed in this area
540 Reg files
And an ass load of temp files.
Temp files i can fully understand but the reg files im unsure if thats normal or high?
Anyways back to the issue It seems like its a DNS problem and that means internet provider problem correct? Also the internet runs great in the day but starts acting up later in the night if that helps

If your on sympatico, their DNS servers suck, and not much you can do about that other then setting up your own caching name server and this is not an easy task. So the DNS is not really a problem at your end.

Although it said no problems, I think I'd run Winsockfix, anyway--it can't hurt.
CLICK
580 reg entries are not too bad, especially if you haven't been cleaning your registry often.
I usually clean mine every other day & get a couple of hundred.
The last time I did the online scan, I had problems & had to search & delete all of their previous files---otherwise, that's a great scan, I can't understand why it won't load for you.
The next time it happens, I'd first shut off the firewall & then I'd hook up direct to your IP to bypass the router.
But, if it's happening at a certain time of day, I'd probably think it's your IP doing it.
Aren't you running a resident virus-spyware program?
I schedule mine for a complete scan every night.
2 free ones that work good are Comodo BOclean & their anti-virus.
Although I went back to NOD32, I'm still using the BOclean.
CLICK
Also, You can try TreeWalk--I have it it works great.
You need TreeWalk DNS if:
1. Your ISP's DNS servers are slow or offline
2. Accurately resolving web sites is a problem
3. You wish to capture or debug DNS routing data
4. You want to custom configure DNS settings and servers
5. You'd simply like faster repeat visits to sites via cached lookups
6. You have poor DNS with your wireless or satellite Internet connection
7. You use Internet Connection Sharing and want to improve surfing speeds

Ya thats right richard i have NO AV Only have had 2 viruses on the old PC and one was not me who put it there and the other i DID put on the PC and i knew it had a very high chance of being a virus when downloading it but i "needed" the program and was willing to take the risk. Used the program with a virus in it then removed both. Simple enuff.
AV is not needed as you know if you have a virus weather a scanner tells you str8 up that you do or the computer bogs down and starts spitting out errors Ethere way you know you have a virus but get quicker startup and less resources are being used well pc is running if you have no AV. Just like a car richard Put carbon fiber doors, hood, trunk, fenders, etc and the car will perform better at accel, braking, cornering, etc But your safty will be at risk in the event of an accident
Im willing to go with performance over safty as long as the driver knows what hes doing ^^ Riding with my dad tho safty is well prefered lol I trust my ability to not download somthing retarded tho so im ok without AV.
And i only scan for spyware when the pc starts to seem a little slugish. Like i said one scan in 6 or so months and only found 7 cookies. Why do a full virus/spyware scan every night only to find nothing or at best 1 cookie? Thats just a little to much work for nothing when its not needed? Hell even two scans a month is a little much when your computer stays as clean even without scanning Trying to fix somthing thats not there just puts more wear on your pc and is a waste of time i tthink
Unless that is your scanner does pick something up everytime then your gonna have to find a better way to remove it or change your habbits to find out where its coming from richard.
Anyways that treewalk should do the trick but it seems it does not save on the HDD but only stays in ram so it will work as long as my pc has bin to the required sites "before" the dns goes out? Otherwise if the computer is turned on well DNS is out then its no help? You use this program so if it does save a list to the HDD let me know but so far from what ive read it stays ram only ><
I dont like icons and programs etc starting up and running in the background the whole time the computers on if its not needed for anything 99% of the time. Basicly i like to keep my running process list a short as possible so unless i need it at the time or the computer always needs it to run properly then it wont be running. So let me know on the treewalk thing cuz if it can be started and used after DNS is out then i will keep a copy installed with a list of my most comonly used sites but if it has to run ALL the time then i will pass.

If you suspect a DNS problem, your router should let you change the DNS server. OpenDNS comes to mind, but you can use Google to find others.

I ran a virus scan today and found a new spyware that ad-aware missed.
And heres the info on the spyware.
http://vil.nai.com//vil/content/v_133652.htm
Ok no problem right? Its just spyware and can be removed.
Ok deleted that one infected file. Now using the link above i can search for the other files that install along with my NDNuninstall6_38-1.exe file right?
Wait there are none?
Cant find these?
sporder.dll
readme.html
(username)@www.new[#].txt
No /newdotnet/ folder ethere? wtf
Also went through the registry to check if it did place the registrys it was supposed to and found nothing not one!!!!! No i didnt clean registry yet Ok so its odd that i only have one part of the puzzle so i checked my old quarantine lists from ad-aware and guess what ... nothing Zero trace of it ... like i had it but never had it active?
SoOoo umm ya? How did i only get part of an infection?

No viruses were detected in memory.

I've run into that, even if it has the same name as a known virus/spyware, it may be different from the norm.
What I would do, if I were you, is do a online scan at TrendMicro.
It's one of the few best that will remove the found problems for you.
CLICK
Also, it's a good idea to run your resident scanner in safe mode, it might find something else.

According to statistics, a newly installed XP will become infected within 12 minuets of surfing without virus protection.

There is no work to do a daily scan, as you schedule it & it just goes.
I don't even mess with AdAware anymore--it's just amateur stuff.
That treewalker runs as a service.
It seems similar to that openDNS, which looks cool too--I think I'll try it. LOL
I didn't really look up how treewalker works exactly, I just learned how to install it & it seems to be doing some good.
At the least, get that BOclean, it does put an icon by your clock, but it doesn't slow anything done, nor does it scan--it just watches for spyware.
This situation proves that you need a resident virus/spyware as you can't tell until its too late.

A newly installed XP has only a firewall made by M$ that can barly be called a firewall and IE to surf with
I bet you could go for alot longer then 12 min if you get a firewall and mozilla/firefox before surfing lol
Quote from link you provided
I used symantic for my online scan and it seems to do the job of finding them ok. Does not remove whats found like trend but does find em
May seem odd but i like to know about viruses and spyware i do get like what thay were doing and what files etc where placed where so self removal is kinda fun unless its a real nasty one
Oh and for yes if you can find a safe one ... or have a safe one already You have my email already i think.
But wont it have to connect to the site for updates? And wont that be a problem if its umm unless it can be updated offline via download's?

Key words "Exploit Internet Explorer"IBM’s most interesting find was a malware hijacking threat operating from the host name iframeDOLLARS.biz, which attempted to recruit partner websites to host a variety of malicious code to exploit Internet Explorer browsers. A successful infection would create numerous Trojans, back-door breaches and spyware installed on target computers.

Thats without a router. But with 2k/XP I STRONGLY recomend a router, those OSes open up tons of network related ports and thats where all the worms get through. They are meant to be on a network, and not directly to the internet. A software firewall may help, but hardware is better and does not rely on the stability of the PC's software. Without a virus, even a AV won't save you fully from worms, they'll still get in, its just a question of how fast the AV will delete them. A NAT router will prevent them from entering period. If you disabled treewalker when using openDNS then ya it would slow you down. Ether that or you have an awsome provider
Treewalker is always going to be faster as it keeps a copy on PC in the RAM insead of going online. Im going to assume you can use both treewalker and openDNS as it would check treewalker "RAM" first then go to openDNS Internet".
Anyways going camping in like 30 mins >< will be gone till monday
Will email you when i get back
