A new Windows trojan that freezes your computer, and demands ransom money or it will delete your files has surfaced this week.
Dubbed “Ransom-A” (also Troj/Ransom-A and TROJ_RANSOM.A), the new trojan is similar to the “internet infection” virus which locked up the files on your computer and then demanded a $200 ransom last year, however this one demands only $10.99, payable through Western Union.
But it also starts deleting your files if you don’t pay.
Of course, despite the bargain basement price, one should not give in to such viral extortion.
So what should you do if your computer succumbs to this nasty trojan?
According to Sophos, the best, if not only, thing you can do is to be sure your virus protection is up to date and protects against Ransom-A. In other words, the best thing to do is to not get it.
It’s also a wise idea to be sure that all of your important files are backed up, so that if your computer does come down with this nasty trojan, you can port them over to a different (if need be new) uninfected computer.
