PvM Mage

Post by Hypntick »

How would someone go about this? i've tried to PvM with my necro mage and apparently i'm just not going about it the right way. Sure I can work a champ spawn just fine but when it comes to trying to take out anything harder than champ level stuff it just seems impossible. What can I do to make this easier or perhaps there is another template I should try that would work?

the monster casting and AI make it harder to use a pvm mage, especially when facing 3 or more casters at the same time. It can be done though. Get a spellweaving book and put 20-40 spellweaving in your template so you can cast nature's fury. They act as good distractions. Daemons work well too, but you can only have 1.

For pvm though, archers and tamers work a lot better. Or if its a really tough monster, try to duel client it with both an archer and a tamer.

For an effective PvM mage, you need the following:

- all 70's resists or very close
- 2/6 casting
- 40 LMC
- lots of mana regen
- minimum of 30 SDI, 50+ recommended
- 130 HP and over 100 mana
- slayer spellbooks

Macros:

- Target random grey and red
- Cure and Arch cure self
- Heal and Greater Heal self
- Cast spell -> Wait target -> last target macro for all of the useful offensive spells (fireball, mind blast, explosion, energy bolt, flamestrike, etc)
- Invis self

These are things that will help a lot:

- slayer talismans
- necro/SS so you can summon a shadow wisp and/or transform into a wraith for replenishing mana
- 100 LRC
- ethy

Some notes: be prepared to RUN. When there are more than two casting mobs targetting you, it's pretty useless trying to kill them because they will constantly fizzle you. Target one, run off, cast, run back and repeat until they are all dead. This also applies to demitels whose spell damage is super high because of uber eval int. The para special can be useful when you're trying to take down a strong single mob. Also, always use the correct damage-type spell for the mob you're fighting.

Necro mages are the best template ever. They are so versitile all you need is the right suit. Summons for PvM and curses for PvP.

Beezl is right about necro mages being a great template. But you will probably like an archer better for the harder monsters. For the really tough stuff, take a tamer. Like gauntlet bosses and stuff. I can 3 hit kill shadow wyrms with my archer, and I can do it while 2 other things are casting on me.

ive soloed demitels with this one, pre boost ones tho.

archery, tactics, healing, anatomy, resisting spells - to as high as you can get.

65-70 chiv (that high cause you wanna do enemy of one)

and rest to, depending on your suit meditation/focus, bushido works good too, about focus i must say that it feels pretty useless.

You could ofcourse do archer tamer too, but atleast myself i find it extremetly hard to fit archery into taming template

Focus > Med if you have a single non-medable piece in your suit.

some of the good pieces you will want are non-med(jackal, arms of bane), take that into consideration

my template, as well as i can remember, is:
archery
anat
tacts
healing
chiv(very important)

thats the main stuff right there. Hector and I varied our templates on purpose, so he has a different setup than I do. I have poisoning on my archer, which there is only 1 other archer/poisoner on the shard that I know of. Thats pretty much a useless skill for pvm, but my archer still does crazy damage.

as i said, depends on the suit youre using, meditation wont do anything if you wear jackals for exmaple

Yea, those are the main skills that I use. Then I plug Musician and Discord on my archer for some extra damage. I'm just learning archer though and was thinking about putting Necro and SS on him for life leech and some fun dead bodies walking with me.

bushido or ninjitsu are also good things for an archer. Some of the ninja stuff doesn't work with bows, and most ninja stuff is stealther or pvp related. Bushido would be better for pvm, but useful with pvp too.
