you mean like Microsoft adding programs that have no proper place at all in their operating systems?
That is an amusing screencap. Last time I used that program it was the cheaper base versionof Cool Edit 2.x before Adobe took that over and consolidated both the regular and pro Cool Edit in Adobe Audition.

I forgot off the top of my head. Just checked and was a bit disgusted to see that Adobe charges $299 for Audition and only offers one version. The interface is basically identical from what I understand, just a different name and cimpany behind it with a higher price.
The nice thing that Syntrillium did was offer Cool Edit for $80 (the one I bought once upon a time) and Cool Edit Pro for $250 with more features.

Yeah, that was nice. I think pro just has more wave-editing features included and support from many platforms. One of the things "going pro" did for cool edit was make them big enough players to attract the big interfaces such as MOTU, et al....
