A more simple suggestion for BoDs. Make them...combinable.
Say you have a 20 exc spined male LBOD. You could put 2x10 exc spined male SBODs, 15+5 exc spined male SBODs, 15+10 exc spined male SBODs (with a 5exc spined SBOD left over), or the normal 20 exc spined male SBODs.
