That's not what is meant by assisted suicide. When people debate the possible legalization of assisted suicide, they're talking about the actual medical assistance in killing someone who wants to die, usually by leathal injection. Buying an elderly person a bottle of vodka is not only legal, but more than likely would not result in the actual death of anyone either because the person can't drink straight vodka anymore or because most old people have trouble swallowing the four or five meds. they have to take on a daily basis, much less an entire bottle of pills. It would be one big cruel joke to buy a sickly, elderly person a bottle of vodka and hand them a bottle of pills and say "You want to kill yourself? Go for it!" and walk away. You would end up visiting them in the hospital while they get their stomache pumped and are in more pain and suffering than they were in before you bought them the bottle. Then again that would be pretty consistent with the amount of compassion you've showed for them to this point.

Did you know most suicides in the 60+ age range are from O.D. on Rx drugs (mostly pain killers) that doctors give to the person?
So the bottle of vodka was to chase all the little pills with to make sure the job is done so they dont have to get the stomach pumped and suffer thru that.

What part of this don't you understand? If you want to buy an elderly or dying person a bottle of vodka and open their pill bottle for them and encourage them to commit suicide, fine. I doubt anyone would arrest you for it, unless a police officer is standing right there watching you do it. However, within the context of a debate about the legalization of 'assisted suicide,' that is not the kind of actions we are discussing. The kind of actions that the 'assisted suicide' debate entails are actions by a medical professional whereby that professional, at the request of the patient, actually ends the life of said patient, whether it be by leathal injection or some other essentially painless method.

with what minnie said about killing people with terminal illnesses, you can kill yourself if you are terminally ill. just ask the doctors to unplug you. they do it all the time.

I'd honestly help kill anyone that needed the help and had a good reason behind it. I'd also make sure i had them sign a waiver relieving me of all legalities.

Goalie, use your brain. "You can kill yourself..." "Just ask the doctors to unplug you." If you have to have someone assist in you killing yourself, that's assisted suicide. You're not exactly "killing yourself."
I think a similar debate could be carried out about the issue of maintaining someone's life after they are unable to maintain it on their own. Where do we draw the line? If someone is against assisted suicide because we shouldn't be "playing God", then it would seem they should also be against putting someone on life support in order to give them a chance to recover and heal. Is not causing a death just as unnatural as artificially sustaining one?
