Internet Issues
Ok gotta make this quick. Woke up yesterday to find my computer making a light ticking noise. Safe to assume its a drive. Anyways disconnected everything and I pulled off the side of my pc and cleaned it out after hooking it all back up everything was working fine and no more ticking.
But now my internet stopped working before going to bed. Though it was just down but no. Woke up to find everything working except the one pc.
Can't ping, Cant connect to anywhere, Cant even directly access the router via this pc?
Thought maybe the cable went bad so I tried another cable and still nothing. Both cables tested in my ps3 and both work fine. Ideas? Motherboard maybe?
Oh and posting (Ihope) from the pc in question because forgot password so couldn't log in from ps3 lol For whatever reason it will load a site out of pure luck every once in a while? but very random that it's the only pc in the place that couldn't connect for 20+ hours. Can read replys from ps3
Edit:Also seems to have randomly decided to stay on now?

If you're with NTL there has been some internet issues, but not sure if it would be related given it was only that one PC, unless it was a coincidence that when you went to it, they had issues. I know at 10pm last night it went down and came back up around 11ish according to my firewall graphs.

With east link and ps3 was online while I was trying to get the pc online. Also even if the internet is down I should have access to the router so the issue has to be at or between these 2 points. Knowing router is fine due to ps3 wired access and all wifi working leaves the pc and cables as a possible source. Again pulled cable from ps3 and tried it on the pc. Didn't work
So any ideas?

Hmm seems kinda weird. Try doing an ipconfig when it's not working, just to rule out that it's an IP issue, like the PC not getting an IP, or physical connection issue, but guess if its physical you'd see the icon at the bottom.

Re-seat the network card.
ping 127.0.0.1 when you have no internet and see what happens

I'm pretty sure the network card is built into the mobo so snapping it back in isn't an option. Anyways so far so good... Weird to say the least and drives seem to be fine also so it leaves me wondering what the ticking was in the first place.
Maybe it just overheated The computer is always on. No joke when I say always. Really its been on since I bought it, restarting for installs only pretty much and shutting down to clean it. Performance wise is still running like new aside from my internet blackout
On a side note every time I see that IP I think of "Theres no place like 127.0.0.1" bumper stickers lol

hmm that sound may have been a capacitor or something popping. Is there good ventilation in that case? May possibly be overheating. Could also have been pure bad luck. Sometimes components go for no valid reason.
To rule out hardware try booting with a linux live CD to see if you get issues there too.

Not great ventilation but more then fair. The air coming out of it is very close to room temp. Of course it's not working very hard right now.
If anything was going to overheat I would of thought my ps3 would be first. First gen 60gb ps3 puts out enough heat to raise the room temp enough that a window needs to be cracked opened in the winter.
It wouldn't exactly be bad news if something fried as an upgrade would be nice even if it is just a new mobo/chip combo. Can get something that can handle 8gb of ram and dual boot with xp-64bit. Anyways nothing seems burnt or anything on the board and internet is working. Been keeping traffic low like torrents and stuff off.
