lol and it boots up? Either way, I would try to reinstall windows over itself, or do a repair. Should hopefully fix things.

Its my friends computer if it was mine I would say so. :P I tried the system disk and it did not work to Repair so then we restarted the computer and tried re-installing windows xp and it would not let me do that, so then we took the disk out and tried to make it boot up again and nothing...

I'd do a repair or get a copy of the missing files from a reliable source. Repair would be the better of the two.

bootvid.dll goes in your C:WindowsSystem32 folder. You can do a google search for the file and find a handful of dll download sites you can get it from. Whether or not you'd want to do that, I dunno. It'd be safer to pull it off your windows install CD. The exact location on the cd eludes me as I don't have one sitting in front of me right now.

Funny, when you do a google search the first result is a virus alert. "If you have bootvid.dll on your computer, you may have a virus!" bootvid.dll is a critical system file, one of the first that gets loaded when you boot up windows. They are basically saying "If you run windows, you could have a virus!" :roflmao2:

It could be a memory issue (ie b0rked stick of RAM). I'd download a memory tester and see what it brings up.

http://www.memtest86.com/
memtest86 is freeopen source and should get the job done.
