Support Ends for Windows XP Service Pack 1
Effective October 10, 2006, support for Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) will end.
After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide any incident support or security updates.

Worse yet, they ended support for windows ME a few days ago. That was the OS of dreams* and many people still use and enjoy** it!
* For techs that get paid 50 bucks an hour to troubleshoot the same problems over and over
** They dont realize all the problems with their PC and continue to enjoy all those gambling sites
