Hey y'all...is there something I can use to read a pdf file other than Adobe? Their stupid download manager is on the desktop and I can't move or get rid of it. I had to get a manual and needed a reader, but Adobe has always been a pain on my system.

The manager thing keeps telling me someone else or a file is using it...so there it sits. Maybe it's just part of the package since I tried to uninstall just the manager, but the error keeps showing.

It probably won't let you delete it because part of it is starting with windows.

Delete it in safe mode or a slick little program to unlock stuff is called "unlocker".

"Purge IE" is a program that''ll alow you to Delete on reboot.

Thanks, I uninstalled Adobe and got the free version of Foxit.

I really like how fast Foxit is, but it’s so much uglier than Acrobat. I had to go back.

Evince gave me a very good first impression, but it’s not for Windows. (We’re constantly left out of everything.)

The problem with a VIEWER is you can't CREATE PDFs

I have Adobe 6 Professional & have no problems.

It can even save a whole web page as a PDF

What I don't like about Adobe is its awfully complicated-but I don't much go beyound 'save as pdf'

You can speed up Adobe loading by not loading some of the plugins.

There are directions on the web to do this manually--once I had a little program that did it for you.

Tak, I never noticed Foxit was ugly.

Rich, all I need is a reader so Adobe is a waste of space anyway, being a 65 MG file versus Foxit's 1 MG. Sometimes we have too many options which does make it complicated for me.

Most people who view PDFs have no need to create them. I don’t see a problem.

I downloaded it again, and maybe it isn’t so much uglier. I think I could get used to it. I’ve attached a screen shot comparing the two. It could’ve been about 6 KiB smaller without any distortion, but I’m not allowed to attach PNGs.

To create PDFs I just get a pdf maker, and it installs as a print driver. But I rarely use it, but its nice to have sometimes.

I suppose if you are in school, your need for programs would differ from mine. Not sure I would ever need a PDF maker.

Tak, maybe it's my monitor, but I see no difference in the 2 readers.

When you create a PDF it looks much more professional then a .doc document.

Like for resumes & presentation or bid papers.

And, while you may create a page in Microsoft Office, alot of people can't open it cus they don't have Office.

Almost everyone has a PDF reader.

I’m not at all doubting the usefulness of PDF. I’m just saying that I don’t see a problem with Acrobat, Foxit, or any other viewer leaving something out that most people don’t need.
