free firewall's?

Post by Triple6_wild »

hey guys ... im at my dad's place setting his mdg pc up

anyways with all the free software that came with this computer thay didnt give him a firewall or virus scanner at all >< i put a firewall on for now but its gonna expire in 28 days so i kinda need one thats free but will stay on here
i also put ad-aware on and mozilla figgered i might as well save some trouble leter lol

ive searched google for free firewall and anti-virus but the only ones i can seem to find are 30 day trials

if anyone knows of somthing plz do let me know

anti-virus is no biggie cuz i can always use an online scan when needed but firewall is a must

ZoneAlarm has a decent free one here (with the option to upgrade to an unecessary pro version)

Nope, the basic firewall is all free, only a bunch of other crap you can get for free is bundled in the pro.

Glad to help :)

Also put it on a router, so even without the firewall you're safe from any inbound stuff. But firewall is not a bad idea to monitor outbound stuff. (ex: a program "calling home")

If the pc is used for banking, it needs to be as secure as you can make it.

ZA is a very good firewall, I liked the free version best as it was less complicated. I discovered that people who just want to turn a pc on and use it, are better off with the simple stuff.

ZA would still be here but Panda now has a built in firewall.

I had that firewall for a while but found it screwed up my FTP connections. I'd authenticate, get on the server, but as soon as it went to do a file listing, it would time out, and never let the packet through.

If I did, it would not let me connect period, it was still letting me connect, just not list files. Its really weird.
