The managers of some of these top-level domains, such as .gb, no longer accept registrations. (Interestingly, registrations are still allowed on the Soviet Union’s .su.) In addition, many countries require proof of residency before you can use their top-level domain. Oh, and sometimes certain top-level domains have additional rules. For example, a site using .cat must have something about Catalan language or culture.
I think I’m going to register my first domain soon. I’ll have XHTML (application/xhtml+xml and not XHTML masquerading as HTML) laced with MathML, SVG, XForms, and any other acronyms I see fit, and I won’t care who I exclude. It should be very therapeutic.

I remember scanning class A ranges to see what i find and I found a gov site for .gov registrations. It had 3 "warning only enter if authorized" warning pages one after the other, followed by a login. Was almost like loging on to the main pentagon server or something. Fun stuff.
