Arg can't wait to move out!

Post by Red Squirrel »

I just started working full time a couple months ago to pickup money. When I get enough, probably in about a year, I'm moving on my own, and I CANT WAIT. I'll actually be able to code in peace and quiet, no more "ryan come here" every 5-10 minutes, no more 200 decibel vacuum cleaner sounds on and off for hours straight.... I'll actually get to see my weekends! I sooo can't wait.

Example today I was working on various things for an update today, guess what, at around 7:30 my mom randomly decides she wants to put this thing in the bathroom which requires a drill, my drill is at my sister's house so I had to go get it. That delayed me, so it was 7:45 and I'm cramming to get this update ready for 8:15 then my dad makes me go move the sprinkler he's all "while you're not doing anything.. go do this, go do that" and all these random little chores just start piling up.

Needless to say, no update tonight.... This ALWAYS happens. It's freaken anoying. They need to learn to take a break once in a while, they just never stop. It's rediculous. I can't wait to live on my own! Sure I'll have to do everything, but I won't make things more complicated then they have to be, which is what they do.

Man since I moved out 3 years ago, I've noticed my relationship with my parents and my family has gotten stronger. Neither of us are around each other to annoy each other, so we miss the great things about each other, knowing that the annoyances really can't exist when we don't live together.

I honestly haven't loved my family nearly as much as when I moved out.

lol that's exactly it. When I lived with my parents, my dad would piss me off so much it was annoying. My mom got on my nerves too. Then after I moved away, it got a lot better. Now when they call it's a 1 hour talkathon and it's great to see how they're doing whereas before it was like "Okay, get out of my face, you're annoying the hell out of me". There comes a moment in every person's life when the time to move calls itself to you. I'd say in Ryan's case it's screaming and banging on the walls.

Haha yeah I could see the relationships get much stronger for sure.

And funny you say banging on the walls, since I often have to bang on the wall when my dad keeps me awake at night with his snoring. :P

And the cat, I have no idea if she'll stay here or come with me. If she stays here I can guarantee I'll get myself a cat, they're so awesome. But my cat is irreplacable, she's just so awesomely funny.

"since you're gone, we've been sleeping so much better, but I can't explain why" :P

That cat keeps them awake at night, its hilarious. I sleep too hard, so the cat can do whatever she wants and I won't know. My old cat used to claw my feet at night, I'd only find out the next morning when I get in the shower and feel the burn.

I'm pretty sure you'll find that when taking care of your own property and house you'll be even more overwhelmed then doing handy-man stuff for your mom and dad. It's not like having your own place gives you all the freedom you want, there's lots more than you think. But anyways, grats to you for trying to get out on your own, good luck.

Yeah I realize that. I still need my mom to show me stuff like how to do laundry and other dirty things.

But I won't wait till the weekend to do those things, I'll do the tasks as they come, their issue is they wait and let it pile up for the weekend.

Most families spend a lot of time on the weekends doing household chares. Week nights get busy and often times there isn't enogh time to get much done especially if one has children.

I get a nice list of chores every Friday from my wife.

Yeah my parents are big on using up entire weekends for work. My mom loves construction too, whether its redoing an entire room, or installing something simple like a light switch. Not sure what they'll do when I'm gone, probably call me a lot. :P I'm the jack of all trades guy around, I do from computer work to electrical work to assembling random stuff.

Then theres my dad, who wants to call a contractor to install towel holders. LOL

also when living on your own it becomes crucial that you know how to cook. Can't live on mcdonalds and taco bell forever.....though it's nice to try

Yeah and frozen dinners and kraft dinner gets old FAST.

I know basic cooking though, I put wieners in my kraft dinner, and that requires to use the stove and a pan. :P

When I move out I'll probably have lessons from my mom on how to do things like cook, or laundry, haha.

I'm guessing in about a year or so, I'll be thinking about it. Saving up right now while I still live at home. Goes great since I work in same building as my mom, and same hours so don't need to buy a car yet. Insurance is pure rape here. I can probably find a car for about 2k, and the insurance is about 2-k lol.

Good god! 2k for insurance? It's around 800-1200 here. That is, if your not driving a sports car.

But I like your plan. I'm also planning on working and living with my parents with no rent for about a year. Of course, my job right now is no good. Temporary contract job for only 12 bucks an hour. But it's something.

I'm beginning to think that majoring in history was a bad idea....because I don't want to teach. I need to learn something new quick.

lol yeah I can't think of anything high paying you could get with History major other then professor or researcher maybe. You could try applying for museum guard or something. :P

And yeah insurance here is insane if you're a guy, and you're under 25, and I fall under both those categories. I can always use the town bus till I hit 25. :P

good grief I think I pay 600 a year or so and I drive a camaro, but I am over 25 and I dont carry full coverage just the basic stuff. As far as cooking, two things to purchase that are just great are a george foreman grill (or a generic one like me) and a frydaddy. with those and a microwave you can cook anything you could possibly want. Also going out to eat (even fast food) is a lot more expensive than a lot of people realize so it's a lot cheaper to just make the stuff at home

Amen. I used to buy a pound of beef and a bag of rice. I'd eat for weeks. A pound of beef will make you 4-6 burgers and it costs about 5 bucks. And rice, good god you'll eat well on that stuff. One, it fills you up. Two, it's versatile (some soy sauce and/or butter makes it a great meal). and Three, it's cheap as hell.

Also, peanut butter sandwiches are cheap and one of the greatest things on earth.

Things to buy that can last you a long time:

-Rice
-Pasta
-Pretty much anything canned

Things that expire at a retardedly fast rate:

-Breads/pastries
-Anything from the bakery

Pasta's the godsend. It's cheap to buy, doesn't take too long to make, tastes good and can be mixed with so many different things. You could survive for weeks off variations of pasta dishes. Same idea with rice, it goes with pretty much everything.

Yeah pasta/spegatti is FTW. then throw in occasional take out and frozen dinners and you got a pretty decent variety of meals.

Hmm, k think I'm set for "cooking". :P

And when times are hard, theres always salad.
