COOL FREE FIREWALL

Post by richardj »

The download page is HERE

It is called Filseclab Professional and it's FREE

The personal edition they want you to pay for so get it before someone wakes up--lol

It works almost entirely by itself -it prompts you rarely & you can silence the alerts

THE BEST FIREWALL I'VE HAD YET :awesome:

AND I allow it to run along with the XP firewall with no problems :biglaugh:

Would it make my personal server not work?

Read the documentation on the site-but if I remember the Pro version is for servers.

It works REALLY GOOD> :yo:

Awesome. Doesn't the Pro version cost, though?

I'd have to look into this firewall, since there seems to be a shortage of free firewalls out there.

My internet was down AGAIN, and I was bored and found it on my desktop (forgot I had it downloaded) and installed it. So far it seems like a nice firewall.

Oddly though, it does not block ICMP packets by default but it was easy to go and block them. Not a big issue on a LAN though.

Well just got an issue with it. Now when it loads it just freezes in the task bar. Can't access it, or do anything. And it was making FTP act al screwy, could not get a folder listing. Too bad though, since there's not a lot of decent free firewalls out there.

HEY- Before you uninstall it run the .exe again and it will give you the option to repair it.

It should work--I haven't had a problem yet exept I had to run a repair of it when I fixed my winsock.

jUST RAN THE ALL PORTS TEST AT sHIELDS uP:

Port Authority Edition — Internet Vulnerability Profile

Shields UP! is checking YOUR computer's Internet
connection security . . . currently located at IP:

207.250.136.152

Please Stand By. . .

Attempting connection to your computer. . .
Shields UP! is now attempting to contact the Hidden Internet Server within your PC. It is likely that no one has told you that your own personal computer may now be functioning as an Internet Server with neither your knowledge nor your permission. And that it may be serving up all or many of your personal files for reading, writing, modification and even deletion by anyone, anywhere, on the Internet!

Your Internet port 139 does not appear to exist!
One or more ports on this system are operating in FULL STEALTH MODE! Standard Internet behavior requires port connection attempts to be answered with a success or refusal response. Therefore, only an attempt to connect to a nonexistent computer results in no response of either kind.

But YOUR computer has DELIBERATELY CHOSEN NOT TO RESPOND (that's very cool!) which represents advanced computer and port stealthing capabilities. A machine configured in this fashion is well hardened to Internet NetBIOS attack and intrusion.

Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer.

All attempts to get any information from your computer have FAILED. (This is very uncommon for a Windows networking-based PC.) Relative to vulnerabilities from Windows networking, this computer appears to be VERY SECURE since it is NOT exposing ANY of its internal NetBIOS networking protocol over the Internet. )

Most likely your router stoping it before the firewall is though. :D Without a firewall I get all stealth exept for ports I'm purposely letting through (public parts of my intranet, etc)

i DON'T HAVE A ROUTER.

PC to DSL modem-to internet

I'm telling you -it's a great firewall.

AND I have stopped the DNS service from running And unchecked WINS & disabled Netbios.

The problem I'm having now though is that Bit Lord won't download. It just sits there so I think I need to adjust something with the ports.

The best way to handle the variety of pop ups asking authority to allow something is---------

If it's a program you know like say Firefox when the permission window opens click on advanced-- then from the arrows in the boxes --select: out-anynet --anytime-- then click ok-the advanced box will close-then click ok on the first box.

After you do this a few times you'll have given firefox all the permissions it needs & it won't ask anymore.

That's the 1 deficiency in this program is an easy way to create rules. :dosgonebad:

ALSO-I thought I was running the Winxp firewall along with this but by default this firewall shutsdown the XP firewall when you install it.
