Explorer can't explore

Post by richardj »

Sometimes, especially after a reboot

If I open explorer and click on my computer-which should the show all my drives

A swinging flashlight apears over a file (searching icon)

and it will search & search & search for MINUETES

and then finally everything appears. :banghead:

THIS IS STUPID. Any one ever run into this?

:o microsoft oopsy daisy error 125894578512399777111155786.22254788-8888-888-111-aaaa.ZZZ

:banghead:

yep i had that too.

you want answer?

or you want to figurer it out your self?

oh okay don't get ta hollerin' at me.

the trouble is that ms made xp load different then the old os's which makes it apear faster.

but it just sometimes clears the info for the fast load and has to redo the search again.

so we get the flashlight icon.
:banghead:

the trouble with it closing windows explorer is not really anything but confused computer so it closes everything to make you restart.. or it is a trojan has got in and it cleared it out. then wants you to restart. or it is the fact you forgot to reboot after you got a ms update. and it did not like you forgetting so it is getting even with you?

take your pick on the explorer error.
 :o
but i have had that happen because of it trying to load too fast and the data was not there.

kind of like a cdrom cache looseing the data and making the cdrom become a coaster.

only it crashes windows explorer and turns the whole computer in to a coaster until you reboot.

that last is what i believe is really happening. :)

I figured that I had confused the issue

The pic I added isn't part of the problem-I just threw that in as example of how stupid Microsoft stuff can be.

But the other part is really irritating when it can't find its own system.

Do you have lot of network drives? Since that can slow things down if the servers are slow. That and if there's a CD in the CD Rom drive.

I'm not on a server. My PC has 2 drives with 5 partitions a dvd & a cd.

When it does this the only thing it finds is the "C" drive (partition)

Is there a CD in oen of the optical drives though? Sometimes it will actually spin it up and it takes long, not sure why it cant cache a simple autorun.inf file in the ram but it does not. (not like XP uses a small amount of ram anyway :P)
