Solution: mouse slow in windows 2003 server

Post by Red Squirrel »

This is most likely because it was running in VMware, but I noticed my mouse was a little chopy in windows 2003 standard so I put hardware aceleration to the max and it's all good now.

Without writeing a book--------

What does Win 2003 do or not do versus WinXP?

Or more broadly put -why would a person want 2003?

Well 2003 is more for servers but can be used as a workstation if tweaked a bit (doing this is one of the tweaks you'd want to do)

First off, it's 20 times faster, even in VMware, it's faster then XP and win2k on a normal desktop. And it only has like 300MB of ram in that particular installation so on a 7GB dual xeon server it's VERY fast.

And in terms of servers you can do quite allot with it such as setup a domain controller out of the box.

How much is 2k3? I'm looking at saving up for Windows Server 2003 x64. I figure that if I plop a fast SIXTY-FOUR BIT SERVER OS onto my PC it would fly.

It's well over $1,000 bucks. Pretty pricy. What's funny is that server 2000 is the same price. Why buy 2000 when you get get 2003 for the same price? lol

I'm starting back at uni tomorrow (or in a few hours really) and one of my first modules is: "developing server applications" and it's windows 2003 orientated which means that i'll have to have it on my computer and MS SQL server aswell.

My computer only has 384 MB Ram but it does run alot faster under win2k3.

Another difference between winXP and win2k3 is that winxp has IIS 5.1 whereas win2k3 has IIS 6.0 which is alot easier to use (well it has more options).

AAAHHHH!!! No one has x64 for less than 2,300 dollars!!!!!!! :o

Maybe I'll have to settle for 32-bit? Some places have it for like 200-400.

With IIS 6.0 Manager for Windows XP, administrators can remotely manage an IIS 6.0 server from a Windows XP Professional workstation.
As far as I know you cannot get IIS 6.0 on WinXP.
