linux tip: auto power off in Debian

Post by Red Squirrel »

By default, debian does not support auto power off, so if you type the "poweroff" command it will pull off a "it's now safe to turn off your computer" thing like the good old win95/98 days with AT power supplies.

Anyway, to solve this, simply type in the console the following as root:

apt-get install apmd

Install it and then your system will now support auto power off.

APM stands for advanced power management, in case you're wondering.
