XP Professional x64

Post by jryan »

Contrary to popular belief, this is the only 64-bit version of Windows XP that can run on the AMD 64-bit processors and the Intel Xeon and P4 with EM64T support. The previous version of Window XP which is known as Windows XP 64-bit Edition was designed to operate solely on the Intel Itanium processor.

I'm installing the x64 RTM1 release as it is currently not availible to retail unless purchased from an OEM or with an approved hardware piece etc... Long story short I intend to test and compare to standard XP Pro and will most likely / hopefully be posting a review on here soon enough.

That is all

Cool that would be great, and be a potential big one in terms of hits.

What about Windows Server 2003 x64? Isn't that coming out? It is coming out/is out according to Microsoft's website.

Hmm that would be cool. Definatly something I'd like to see as well.

I was going to say I'd test it in VMware, but I don't think it would be able to emulate 64-bit processor on a 32-bit processor.

Actually Pyr-O-Rgasm, it would be interesting to test Windows Server 2003 x64 as well. Once again, important to note that Windows Server 2003 x64 only currently supports certain processors, namely:

• AMD Opteron

• AMD Athlon 64

• Intel Xeon with Intel EM64T

• Intel Pentium with Intel EM64T

If I get a chance before the end of the summer, I'll give Server 2003 x64 a look over and a review.

 They fuckin' charge shipping and handling. Maybe I'll go with the download. Whatever.

BTW, it could be a bit of time before I get my hands on any type of new Windows. So, go ahead.

Yeah, but I wonder how much Server 2003 x64 costs. Hmmm, I'll have to look into it. If it's less than 100 dollars it's DEFINETLY worth it.
