man oh man oh man.
ya just have not lived until you try and replace a tosated modem in your dell
comptuer.
i simple thing like that and they screw it up something terrible.
needless to say i did not get the new modem to work.
i am still using this toasted one.
for some reason dell wont let you buy any old modem they have to do some
thing to the drivers of the modem or it wont work.
i got the thing installed and it showed in the device manager but said it was not
functional like duh i could tell that cause it would not dial out.
i spent all night on it last night and half the morning then got the old one back in and the dang thing works faster now then before still not as fast as it was a year ago and not with the dell drivers which is strange.
but it is using the micorsoft drivers that came with winXp to run the modem and it is doing it faster then the dell drivers did.?
it is also on a different com port, one that was not there before, seems dell just wants to make our live terrible.
and now i got a new modem but since i put it the computer there is a chance the store wont take it back and that means dell cost me another 30 bucks for the new modem that don't work.

well i got this fixed too i still got the old toasted modem in but several driver updates later and it seems to have bypassed something now the modem is up to 49bps connection speed and wont go any higher.
just wonder what part is toasted i cant tell because of that black box dell covers their modems with?

Are you sure it is 49 bps? With a speed that slow it would take you over 15 minutes to download this page.rovingcowboy wrote: well i got this fixed too i still got the old toasted modem in but several driver updates later and it seems to have bypassed something now the modem is up to 49bps connection speed and wont go any higher.
