EA will drop support for 2D client

Just a heads up for everyone to backup their UO folders to a DVD or other media as EA will be dropping support. That means the download as well as patches will no longer be available.

I also advise everyone to backup their installs, then upgrade to 6.0.1.7 then save the 6.0.1.7 folder and revert back to 6.0.1.6 until I finish coding the patch to the server. I only get a few hours per day so it may be a few days for it to be done. This shard will only support 6.0.1.7 once I'm done so I want to be sure everyone is ready to switch over.

wait.... they are dropping support for the 2D client? What client are we going to be using once we've patched?

btw... it went up to 6.0.1.8

Kingdom reborn has been released. Is this patch stuff you're doing going to support KR?

6.0.1.8 will be the client to use. .7 will work too, but anything lower won't. The changes are packet related and adding cross client compatibility is tedious and error prone. I'm hoping to support KR, but I can't legaly do so, so if it works, cool, otherwise I can't really try to make it work or support making it work client side. (IP is hard coded so a special loader will be needed)

i downloaded 6.0.1.8 and it doesnt work, what do i do? how do i get it back to 6.0.1.6 or 6.0.1.7?

Be sure that if you patch, to make a backup, and just keep the patched client in a safe spot for now, it is not yet supported, but will be in the next day or so.

Every shard was probably meant to mean every EA/OSI shard.

This shard will not support KR any time soon. The last patch broke the encryption script and its not a priority to fix it. Unlike 2D KR does not have tools such as razor to remove the encryption. If someone makes such tool, then we are a step closer to supporting KR. Just need to figure out the packet changes, which requires lot of reverse engineering.

ea is so massively screwing up cause there is some ppl that play 2d only cause kr isnt that good and some ppls computers cannot run it like mine it will run 2d but will not run kr cause i only have 512 mb ram and i could run it but it would be uber laggy get ready for a freeshard rush cause ea is messing with their own pockets muahahahahahah! good ! new ppl finally ! like the miners with the gold will be like ea uo players for freeshards!
