The Pope Passes

I'm not catholic but figured I'd post this given it's a pretty big issue. I knew it was coming, and is probably better for him, he was not doing too hot in terms of hp..erm health.

The Roman CathOlic Church wept for its earthly leader yesterday.

Pope John Paul II, who for the past 26 years led the Catholic Church through trials, conflicts and triumphs, died yesterday in his Vatican apartment at 84.

The news that John Paul had expired came as cardinals were leading about 70 000 people at St Peter’s Square at the Vatican in prayers for him in his “last journey”.

“The Holy Father, John Paul II, died at 9:37 p.m. (3:37 p.m. local time) in his private apartment,” said papal spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls.

In Barbados, as in countries around the world, news of the death of the Pontiff was met with sadness.

“We can only hope the Lord sends someone of his calibre to lead the church into what seems like a very uncertain future,” Roman Catholic priest Father Harcourt Blackett told the SUNDAY SUN.

He described the Pontiff as a breath of fresh air for the Catholic Church. He said the church in Barbados was wishing the religious leader a peaceful passing to God where they were sure “a welcome awaits him”.

The Pope died after suffering heart and kidney failure following two hospitalisations in as many months.

When the news was announced in St Peter’s Square by Undersecretary of State Archbishop Leonardo Sandri, there was complete silence. The crowd seemed stunned. A few minutes later, some people broke out in applause in appreciation for the Pope – in an Italian tradition in which mourners often clap for important figures. Others wept.

Prelates invited the faithful in the square to keep silent so they might “accompany the Pope in his first steps into heaven”.

Since his surprise election in 1978, John Paul travelled the world frequently, staunchly opposing communism in his native Poland and across the Soviet bloc, but also preaching against rampant consumerism, contraception and abortion.

The Pope's HP has reached zero. It is pretty dissapointing when such a powerful man loses his HP. I'm not Catholic, though. I personally believe religion is bullshit, but this isn't the topic for it.

That was a nice analogy(sp?).

So you're the Mod, he's the Admin, ... who's spamming the Earth anyways? <_>

I've been kind of a hermit with the news lately, although I know about the Pope somehow. I heard the next one will be african.
