Official name for my BBS

I have decided to stick with SquirrelBBS, and completed the mass replace to fix all the variables and text that refered to Zeroboard. The operation was successful and I did not royally mess things up like these operations can do.

Lot of bugs to fix though before I can even consider a release but I'm hoping to stop slacking and work on it more, especially since I'm off this week. So by the end of the week hopefully I'll have a beta out, and the official site, which I did only started the template at college and only tested it in IE (God forbid).

I'm even thinking of getting a domain but I probably should not mention it because I might get owned by the CyberSquad.

A large organization that steals domain names so they can sell them. (actually there's a whole inside story to that one it's a made up term for that.

)

Basically if someone sees I want to register sbbs.com for example, they'll register it before me and put it up for sale for like 5M. But this is mostly a problem for big corporations and with trademark laws it's not as popular anymore.

Wow I actually worked on it non stop today. Mostly bug fixing though but also lot of admin side stuff such as general options. (board offline, default user group etc). Oh, and I implimented user groups better - settings actually do something.

Tomorow I want to add the setting to add/edit/remove user groups and maybe even enable profile view and make it so users can edit their profile... well the whole user cp thing has not even been started yet.

By end of this week I want to try and make it worthy of releasing a beta. I still need to change the colors though, it's oranage and I want it to be green instead.

Yeah chances are I'll have one setup as well, for people to try out, and will be available to download of course. But it won't be deemed good for production use until like version 0.6 or so. (first release will be 0.2)

I might put a non-production one at anythingforums.com too. A guiny pig site for when I test stuff.

Yeah, most likely on the SBBS site once I actually make it. Probably won't give access to admin cp though, it will have to be downloaded and installed for users to check out that part.

The admin cp is a new concept - it's built right into the board itself, no seperate login or anything, if you're admin, you can use the functions. It's all based on a drop down menu on top. If your in a forum you get options like "add new forum" and "edit this forum" which apply to the forum you're in. Oh and something that took years for IPB to do: unlimited sub forums.

Hahaha found a small security flaw in the permission table's structuring. the board can get confused with IDs that end the same. 0 and 10 would be the same, or 123 and 23 or 123 and 3, etc.. it's all the the way it's stored. 123:0 for no access and 123:1 for access, seperated by commas. So when doing a a check for 3:1 it can match with 123:1, and if forum ID 3 is the admin one, well... that can be an issue.

So I will restructure the way it's written and fix the flaw, before it even ships as a beta.

I'd love to see the day MS does this.

Man, if the Ultima Online shard was up right now, I probably would not have noticed this security flaw tonight.
