Try a memtest, sounds like bad ram. I had a similar issue, but in my case no errors, it would just reboot, turned out the stick of ram had millions of errors on it.

Microsoft suggests a damaged installation disc. Does it look damaged?

What kind of system is windows XP going to be put on? Does it meet all the specifications? You might have less of something than windows XP requires. That's the only thing I can think of. Either that, or the install is a hacked copy that has errors on it. Did the hard drive format successfully? I would test it out to make sure that it's in working condition, or better yet, if you have a spare hard drive laying around, I would try that one to see if the install proceeds.

Yeah forgot to mention that, did you test the drive for bad clusters? I've seen this a few times where a system won't even boot because of bad clusters. Most likely the system was moved while it was on. So many people do that...

sounds like your trying to put it on too small of a harddrive to me.

or the motherboard wont work with xp or the ram is not fast enough.

check out the requirements for the xp system and see if they are all met or if there is any chance that one requirement is too close to the lower end.

also it could be a pirate copy of xp your trying to install and the componet is the file on the orignal own's hard drive that the xp system needs.? that sometimes happens when the xp systems where bought as preinstalled.

you can always take it to the repair shop and have it check to see if it meets xp requirements.

the bad sectors on the hard drive wont stop an install unless the whole hard drive is bad. or just enough of it to not have enough room for xp.

xp takes a minimum of 196 mbs of ram why ? because xp use's ram for the recourse's and it also takes 150 mbs justs for the xp system it's self.

so to do any work on xp like photo shop you need a minimum of 512 mbs of rdram. if your mother board can handle it put on 1gb of ram.

also your hard drive might be too small. check that out.

thats all i can think of for now

good luck. B)

My XP Pro installed before always with no problem. This time, it just froze up with no error messages about a hundred times. Finnaly, I disabled everything in the CMOS that I could (plug & play, network, modem exct.) then it went in right away.

I would try this, clean the cd & buy a cd player cleaner, its a cd with little brushes on it.

You can also try returning your CMOS to it's default by going into it & pressing F6, or hold down F6 as it boots. :awesome:
