Hello,
My name is Tee and I'm new to this site. I was referred here by a member on another site. So far, I'm finding some really *great* information! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your community and for letting me post on your forum.
Here is what I'm up against right now. <popping stress pills! LOL)
I need to create (update actually) a site that will use log in with user names and passwords. They will have to create a username and password (once) that they will have to remember in order to log into the site. If they forget what their U/N and/or P/W is it will kick them out after the 3rd attempt then I'll have to reset it for them. (the company wants me to maintain that part of it).
The interactive part will be for handling prescription refills only. Normally, heart meds, and the like as it's a cardiology site.
Also, once they get into the site, they will have to fill out a form (each time) with their (first and last) name, D.O.B., Phone, email, name of prescription they are refilling, how many milligrams, how many times taken per day and a comment box. If none of these fields are filled out, it must kick them back to the (unfinished) page and alert them to what needs to be filled out (highlighted in red, for instance). Then of course a submit button. I've done this type of form before, but it's been a looooong time. Didn't like doing them then, and am not looking forward to doing them now! LOL
Once it's correctly submitted, they should get a page saying "submission was successful" (or some such wording) and then the filled out page will go to a nurse located at the medical office.
This site must be totally secure in order to pass H.I.P.A.A. standards for the privacy act.
Any help, or pointers, that you can offer will be greatly appreciated! I have a couple months to get this all completed. <popping more stress pills!> I've owned my own web design business since '98, and I really enjoy it, now I have something new to learn and I'm pretty nervous about it as this is a really big contract.
I've printed out the php tutorials that are on this site, and I'm hoping they will help me get this job done! But, I *know* that I'll be looking for help and I think this is the perfect place to look for it! Thanks for a great site!
Tee

Welcome to the forum! I should be able to help you with that.
Basically what you'll want is to program a content management system. Something similar to phpnuke. But DON'T use phpnuke or any one that can be downloaded, or bought. The main reason is that they are too well known, and more targetted. phpnuke for example has quite a few security exploits and it would probably not comform with HIPAA standards. not sure how strict they are but I would assume strict enough.
What you'll have to do is use cookies to keep the login information, and on each page have an include() that will check the cookie, and compare it with the account in the database, and if the user/cookie is invalid or not there, it will show the login page. Actually this may make a good tutorial to make since my tutorials don't really cover login systems.
Good luck with that sounds like a big enough project.

Ohhh! I really hope you *do* make a tut on log in! I've seen your tutorials on PHP and they are fantastic!Red Squirrel wrote: Actually this may make a good tutorial to make since my tutorials don't really cover login systems..
Thank you so much for replying back. You have a great forum going here and from what I've seen, the people are extremely friendly and helpful. Not something you find everywhere! Thumbs up to you!
I've saved your reply in my (ever growing) folder on PHP.. which I'm so clueless on it's pathetic! But, I'm a quick learner.. and I hope that helps in this adventure! LOL
Thanks again!

No problem, glad you like it here. I built this place with friendlyness in mind. The colors must be what does it, it's a phsycological(sp?) thing.
Been busy lately since my LAN server is having problems but once that is all sorted out I'll start on the article. CMSes seem to be popular nowadays anyway so an article on how to make your own should do rather well.

I fully agree! And from what I've seen, the way you write your tutorials, you should do a great job!Red Squirrel wrote: CMSes seem to be popular nowadays anyway so an article on how to make your own should do rather well.
I've got the tutorial you wrote all printed out, and I've ordered a couple books that I hope will help (3 books cost me $65.00.. darn things *should* teach me *something*! LOL)
This PHP is just a whole new thing for me. I've been doing web design for years, and can type in HTML almost better than I can in English, and have my own business and I love being able to have it in my home office since I'm disabled with MS (The Multiple Sclerosis one, not the other MS! Although the latter has disabled me a time or two also! ) I can work during the day or at night depending on how I'm feeling.
So once the books come in and using your tutorial, and of course having this wonderful forum available, hopefully, I can get the interactive part of this site I'm working on, off the ground and running smoothly!

Just bumping to say (and to make myself a reminder to actually do it) that I'll probably start on that article sometimes this weekend, maybe even tonight. So expect it soon, unless something get's in the way or something.
