WMP 6.4 + Vid troubles = an annoyed me

Post by Anonymous »

Heya peoples!

I'm hoping someone out there in dream land can help because this has been pissing me off and confusing me for the past solid month.

Here goes...

Recently (dang bills) I've had to cut back certain things in my life so I can pay for some bills. My TV cable being one of them. Well, with that went me getting to watch a few of my fav shows, one of them being Stargate SG1.

After about a week or so I (quite literally) stumbled across this very neat little website that had SG1 and SG Atlantis episodes in .avi format on it. Suffice it to say, I was thrilled! This meant that I'd still be able to watch my (one) of my fav shows! However, the site stated that anyone who wanted to watch the videos had to have Windows Media Player 6.4 installed and on their pc in order to view them.

So, me wanting to d/l and watch them, I downloaded WMP 6.4 and got to watch the new season's beginning episodes for SG1 and SG Atlantis.

However, in downloading WMP 6.4 something along the way got screwed up. :(

I can't use my Avi Preview any more (it refuses to show the video for ANY video file I've gotten anymore, although the audio is still crystal clear). And now I'm unable to play the newest episodes from that site on my VirtualDub, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, or DivX because all I keep getting is a blank video with clear and smooth playing audio.

The dang thing is driving me nuts! :banghead:

What do you guys think? Could it be a problem with my computer? Could it be a problem with their .avi files?

Any advice or thoughts on this would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks for your time!

ps
In case you need it :
I'm on Windows 98
Got my pc in 1999
Yes I've got a virus protector installed on my pc
Any other vital info I left out and you need to solve this, just ask!

EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you so much Sintekk!!!! Gah!! Its SO nice to be able to SEEE  the videos again!!!! THANK YOU!!! ~*can't believe I've been suffering for nearly a month with a problem I could've fixed in 5 minutes!!!*~

Oh,
and on a side note, would anyone around here happen to know anything about Winamp?
I was editing an mp3 one day (about a year or so back) and while still in the mp3 editor I clicked 'play' for a song, not really even paying much attention. Then when it got finished saving or whatever, an error popped up when I tried to play a song with my Winamp. After that all I could do with my winamp was play a single song, MAYBE once while the dang program froze up and I had to ctrl atl del to close down my Winamp. After that, and the fact I could only get MAYBE 1 stupid song to play on it, I decided to delete it from my pc and redownload it to see if that worked.
It didn't.
I (due to other circumstances) even reloaded my pc from scratch (you know, if you have that certain diskette or CD that was included when you FIRST got your pc? I used that.) and STILL that didn't help! And so, unhappily, I've had to suffer with either listening to one song over and over and over again using my WMP or RealPlayer, or constantly taking the time out to MANUALLY open up the program when the song was finished, find a new song, and let that one play.
(Basically, a very restricted listening type of thing.)

So, if anyone has any suggestions, ideas, or opinions, I'm totally open to them!!! Um... please? :angelic:

ps
Oh yeah, and I also have a problem with my pc concerning audio CD's. A few years back I could play them on my pc with problems at all! Now all I get is no audio whatsoever, even if the device says that the song is playing, the counter numbers are moving, etc... but no audio to be heard.
Any suggestions or thoughs on that one?

Thanks for ALL of your help you guys! ~*squeals happily like a giddy little school girl and rushes off to go watch my now new viewable episode of SG1*~ EEEEE!! *^.^* Thanks again!

Glad you fixed it, and welcome to the forum. :D

Your other problem sounds like the WRBS* issue. If your PC can handle it get windows 2000 on there, that won't happen, well it should not.

*WRBS Windows 98 Random Bug Syndrome. :D
