spam is pointless these days!

I don't know the point of spam anymore, first people trying to sell stuff, that did not work, so they move on to scams, that works because people are stupid, but they also get in trouble, then they move on to porn, does not work that well.. Now emails that don't even say anything!

Latest pointless spam:

Îðãàíèçàöèÿ ñíèìåò îôèñíîå ïîìåùåíèå, 20-25 êâ. ìåòðîâ, ÞÀÎ Ìîñêâû.
Èíòåðíåò, ëèíèÿ ÌÃÒÑ.
Áåç ïîñðåäíèêîâ.

Like really, I don't know why they waste their time with that. What sucks though is that it's hard to block these because it's just a bunch of random extended ascii characters. But it usually comes from îôèñíîå ïîìåùåíèå or something like that.

it's probably chinese or something. It's just that your email client, or rather the message, is using the wrong character set. Spammers really don't care though. They send out so many of these things that they don't care if a lot of people can't read them, because some of them will. And amoung those some miniscule percentage will respond, even though 99.9% don't. And with the numbers of emails they are sending out, that tiny percentage adds up to real money. And since it doesn't cost anymore to send few hundred than it does a few million... well you get the idea.

Yeah I guess they figure there's nothing to loose. They should make it illegal though, to me it's just as bad as viruses, it can bog down entire servers. I don't get it so bad, but some people do get hundreds daily.

Well then go bug your public official or whatever :P

We've got an anti-spam law here in the states, but it's a lot easier on the spammers than most of the state laws it made useless, and also makes it impossible for individuals to go after spammers. So we jsut have to wait and hope our ISPs get sufficiently annoyed to do something.

Yeppers!

I think the only remedy now is spam filters. Mine works 90% of the time. The problem is that I don't know how to configure it to delete and bounce mail, because that's what I'd like it to do. I'd want to bounce it in case a legit email get's caught in the filter too.

This is a free program you might want to take a look at.

My setup is even better, it does the whole network. ;)

What I want to do though is get it to delete before it even gets to me, which I could do with my main client, but with the server it would be better so I only need to do it once, and not each account.

But to be safe I'd want it to bounce otherwise if a good email does not get through, it would not be good.

For now it's not too bad though the spam goes in my trash.
