Ever get one of those days?

Post by Red Squirrel »

Where your brain is not in full capacity mode? I was wireing a fluresent light inside this glass cabinet for my dad's car collection since the other wire was crushed and when I pluged it in I had a little suprised, so I spliced the wires, put in a new wire and a new plug.

Well first mistake: I forgot to put the wire in the plug cover before wireing it to the other end, so I had to unwire it and put the thing in and rewire. It happends. Then I finish off screwing it tight making sure it's safe etc... I go to plug it in.... and it was a Eropean type plug :roflmao2: the prongs were horizontal instead of vertical. So we go back to Canadian tire and get it exchanged and get a good one.

When I wire the good one to it, I do that exact same mistake I did at first!

But anyway, now it finally works and I did it right.

I hate Mondays!

Managed to crush my big toe moving a cabinet and burnt my hand with hot tea. Left a CD in the glove compartment of my car (St Etienne: Smash the System, my feel good music for when I'm crawling along the M25) and its now warped and won't play.

That's a bad way to start a week!

Well today I'm sick, and it started a bit after I posted this thread. What happened is that the dryer vent pipe got loose and it's hard to get behind there so the exhaust is probably what made me sick as I was working near the laundry room. I decided to stay home today and I'm slowly getting better. The mucus is getting thicker. :D

That sounds pants. Why are you working near a laundry, unless that's a stupid question? I don't know much about you guys. I know you are Canadian and at school. Do you have a thread to introduce your regulars???

Yeah I feel better. The laundry room is in the basement and I was working near it so probably got the fumes from the dryer that way. Our setup is horrible actually. blow a fuse? good luck finding the rightone since it's BEHIND a custom built cabinet with a small hole in the back. Thankfully when I made the breaker go off it was a bottom one so it was easier to get at. It's the same one I had to close to install a socket in the storage.

Actually a thread to introduce would not be a bad idea, feel free to start one in the krazy igloo arcade forum.

No it was at home, has nothing to do with school Just one of those things that had to be done. It was too dark in that room without the second light. I also fixed my dad's cabinet light since the cord shorted out so I replaced it.

Whenever there's electrical work need to be done at my house or a friend's I usually end up doing it. Saves my parants lot of money from paying electriciens for silly half hour jobs. :D

Can't get an electrician over here unless you pay extortionate amount of money nor a plumber. I paid £150 to get some guy to take a bird nest out of my extraction fan pipe. What a sucker am I!! (I was too scared to go up the ladder myself)

haha yeah it's like that here too. Not sure if that expensive but close. Especially to consider what I did, install a socket on an existing circuit, took about half an hour to staple the wireing and hook it up. I could of even did it without shutting the breaker, but safety first so I did. :D

Have to admit I won't touch the electrics in our house but will try my hand at DIY. Have some pretty large holes in the wall where I thought, hey I can do that, and then discovered I couldn't.

Our electrics are weird, if you have the kettle and the toaster on at the same time the trip goes off and I swear the traffic lights down the road go off too!!!

haha, here houses are rated for 60 amps I think, well 15 amps per breaker with usually 1 breaker per room / application (ex: outside). The only time a breaker trips here is when there's a short. Like when I plugged in that old light that I fixed. I used to play with electricity when I was yonger, and then I got to know the safe way of doing things but before I was not very safe. Foil paper conducts electricity well, is easy to manage and fold, so it goes into the socket and fun I had. :D Somehow I made it turn bright blue a few times as I scramble to unplug the extension cord I shoved it in. LOL

Once someone backed into the electrical box near our house, quite an impressive sight to see all those high voltage wires sparking up into flames. We had the firedeparment here in no time. Water is NOT the solution to putting out such a fire. :D

I once got electricuted, burnt my fingers and threw me across the room... scary....won't touch it

I think the problem with the wiring in my house is I got my dad to install a power shower and there was lots of swearing going on when he was doing it so I'm really not sure what he was up to. He also installed our gas cooker so if you don't hear from me for a while you'll know why.

My bruvver does great stuff with electrics like lights that dim according to the volume of noise and intelligent heating.....way above my head

yeah getting electrocuted is scarry. Happened to me a few times but it was only 120 volts which is not enough to throw you far, it just jolts your hand off, or in some cases makes it stick but I never had that happen to me. I never got shocked for more then 100ms because the reaction is so instant. never did any damage to my skin or anything though, just had that weird feeling for a while and my heart going twice the normal speed because it scares me every time like someone walking behind and going "boo!".

yeah, weirdest thing! Felt like my senses were heightened like I could really feel the wind on my skin and everything was extra loud (I sound a right nutter now). I got electrocuted by an arcade machine, can you believe. Best cure for gambling ever.

Anyway, finished my project (sort of), so going to say goodnight..
Nice chatting to you
