On Febuary 3rd, a google logo honoring Gaston Julia linked to the google image search result for the words "julia fractal". The resulting traffic caused the host of the leading images [an austrailian university] to crash , forcing the owners of the site to replace it with this
Add to the the fact that Slashdot posted a story about it later, sending another volley of traffic their way. [reactoion to being slashdotted]
These guys can't seem to catch a break
But if does arouse the question, as the fractal site owners mentioned, should google ask site owners before potentially send huge amounts of traffic their way, and couldshould google have done something to alter the search results to pevent sites from getting flooded like this?

Fractal site googleblatted (and slashdotted)
Wow that's kind of cool. I guess they don't really have time to start finding contacts for all the top sites. They need to put a logo for when the iceteks aniversery comes and do a search for iceteks when clicked on. I should email them...
