I wonder if the computer crashed if they tried to do anyting.
Pentiums weren't made to be overclocked that much, so they couldn't have really used it, no matter how good the cooling was in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm sure you can't really use it. Even without the heat, it was probably not stable enough. I want to overclock a 486 that high.

If you do that, I will give you the Nobel peace prize.
It's an impossible task, but if you can manage to do it...
How'd my Ice cubes go up from 17 to over 5000????
I can't even overclock a 450Mhz to 504Mhz without problems.
But that's only because I OC'ed the FSB.

Oh ok.
Is t because I'm such a nice guy???
Anyway this is a nice forum. Great Work Red
The layout is a little weird in my opinion, but I can get used to it
Well, back on topic.
I think this is a great technological achievement, but I've seen processors overclocked far more than this, and run perfectly.

Thanks glad you like it. Yeah it is different. I wanted it to look different then every other forum out there.
I'm sure an AMD athlon could easly surpass that overclock though. I think they are already close to that using stock speed. (equivelant to Intel that is). AMD athlon 5000+

I agree. AMD's are the king of overclocking, if you have the right MoBo.Red Squirrel wrote: Thanks glad you like it. Yeah it is different. I wanted it to look different then every other forum out there.

I've never heard of the Athlon 5000+

Me nether, just made it up. I think they are up to like 3200+ That's the highest I've seen so far.

Yep, win 2k. I so can't wait to be able to afford to build another computer though since I want a linux server. Best way I can learn linux is to have a machine that will actually do something with it.

I know a few things you might find handy.
I'll just have to dig them up from GH.

I've heard of people overclocking their processors around 5x the normal clock speed.

why shouldn't the guy be able to use the computer? It was just his processor running that fast, not his hard drives or anything else. If i remember correctly, he was running a benchmarking program, so it shows youthat it can handle it. But he did kee putting liquid Nitrogen in, so it wouldn't last that long.

He may have been able to run a benchmark, but overclocking it that much will result in extreme instability, and once the nitrogen runs out, the computer is fried.wldkos wrote: why shouldn't the guy be able to use the computer? Toms wonderful 5Ghz P4, the resons the P4 overclocks so well is the 130nm process it was created on, and the design of the 20 stage pipeline.
See guy chips are very intresting the PC would be usable as long as it was fed with liquid Nitrogen but its costly, remember metal can conduct better thus less leakage and less heat.
AMD as long as they are using IBM's SoI technology wont be able to OC like this due to the fact the gate leakage has no place to go and can make the clocking unit fuzzy resulting in timing errors on the CPU rendering it useless until the problem is fixed.
The other issue with ocing if you not experenced it an AGP/PCI lock so you can OC via the FSb and nothing else has any issue assuming you buy good ram, memory timing and its cooled properly.

Interesting. So it comes to show us that both chips have their goods and bads. AMDs may perform better at stock, but Intel's can overclock better, In this case. Also I think an AMD would overheat way too much if pushed that far.

Any chip will hence why air cooling has given way to water and phase vapor for OCers, Prescott is a new beast thou, its doesnt look to good yet but a few little birdies have hooked the techs up at my work with some infro on prescott. It isnt currntly doing what designed for, some Tech sites have hinted to this but due to NDA's cant talk. Prescott has be hindered by the packaging, chipsets, and bandwith. Before forming any opinions about it wait a few months and see what happens with the 925 chipset boards supporting PCI-E, and DDR-II they will use a different socket too. thats all I can say
