We got over 8 hours of downtime today from around 9:00am to 4:00PM, where 9AM is when I noticed, so I don't know how long it was down before then, and it came back up around 4.
The host does not really know what is going on, but it's something to do with the provider (wowrack.com) and hopefully these problems will be fixed soon. It's the downside of not hosting your own site.

Good news: the host has privatly offered to switch me to a new server. This will require a dns propagation which can take up to 3 days, but after that we'll be on the most reliable server.
So let's hope for the best! I'll try to arange so that the "old site" will display the IP of the "new site" so you can edit your /etc/hosts file for linux users and your C:WINNTsystem32driversetchosts in windows (nt versions). Not sure about win98 and stuff though.
So this is indeed good news for all of us and I hope it goes smoothly.

hahah,. wooooo! Just played with it, and now I type "servershare"
and it goes right to my server, instead of typing in the IP, just like /etc/hosts on my linux box.

It's just to make the computer bypass the dns record. So while the DNS record is still pointing to the old IP, you can change it, then once the DNS has the right IP you can remove it and it will work.

Still no news from the host about the move, but I did tell them I want to make sure to have the chance to put up a notice before the move. I'll keep you guys updated on this. I will most likely post the IP in this thread, but if I have time I'll put a header on every page with the information since what will happen is if you post on this server while we are moved, the post will disapear once your dns server changes the right IP. I will also set the forum in read only mode depending on the ammount of time I'll have before the move.
