Wow! That is terrible! I don't think it will get anywhere though. This is clearly going too far. (Well... That is clear to me anyway... :P )

Guess they will want to plant some some sort of detection device on us next, so they can monitor *everything* we do!

I did not even read all of it. Just plain horrible. They are going way too far with this copyright thing. First the RIAA now this?! What next? It does not affect me, but what tells me they won't imply the same in Canada sooner or later? All my suppliers are from Canada so I don't need to worry yet, but some of the companies are still US.

I thought the US was a democratic country. :grade11math:

"...All computers sold in the United States..." Ha, now that's the sort of stuff that makes me glad I'm Canadian.

Yep. But what I wonder is how they will implant this "device", as if it's directly in the manufacturing process, most of the companies are US based so we'll get some stuff from the US in Canada that has this implanted in it. I suppose this will be in the motherboards, or maybe the processors, not sure where they would put it. I think it will be put in after manufacturing though, as now that I think of it, many companites are in japan, china etc... I'm really not sure how this is going to be done. But I'm glad to be Canadian. US laws are going too far now with copyright-related things. They should concentrate on better things such as banning guns. You can buy a gun there and carry it freely. I guess it depends on the state though, but I heard it's quite easy to obtain weapons.

This really isn't anythign new. The RIAA has said before that they wanted to put cop chips in ever adc [analog to digital converter] on the planet. We're talking stuff liek cell phones that would turn off if you got to close to your stereo that was playing copyrighted music. Or video cameras that would play dead if your tv somehow got in the shot. - now how practical is that. I guess if you wanted to make a phone call you would have to go out into the middle of a corn field.

The good this though is that hardware manufacturers know about this and don't like it at all. They make a ton of money on the legitimate and illegitamite uses of their products that such technology would interfere with. So right now the cop chip people have got a big opponent in them. Not to say the RIAA and MPAA can't buy government policy despite that. Let's just hope not.
