That's madning. What I find funny about DoS attacks is that they last so long. I used to get many on my server but I'd block the IPs it came from. But in my case it all came from about 2 IPs, some are millions of IPs so you can't do much, specially if it's not your own server, which from the article, I don't think it is.
I don't know why people do these things

darn script kiddies. DDoS is turning into some kind of sadistic fad or something. They seem to be just about everywhere. Particualrly with torrent sites for some reason. Those sites go down just about daily, and get dropped from their hosts every other week.

Yeah, DDos is becoming bad. I guess it's because it's so easy to do and yet is so damaging, but it's a temporarly damage, as rebooting the server to kill all the processes should work, once the attacks have stopped. But usually it's on for a long time so they can't do much while all these connections are coming.
I made the computer downstairs do a BSOD by DoSing apache one night as I was bored.

I have seemed to notice that hacking got "big" again. i thought it was cool when the linux community teamed up to take down SCO's website, but now it's just plain old.

That's something new "new server". I had no idea a DDoS could damage a server?!? I thought it was only sending so many requests that it would crash, but never realized it could do hardware damage!

The new server has nothing to do with the attacks. They were planning to buy a new one before the attacks and had just raised enough money.
