Av Program Hangs

Post by Wren »

I'm using Panda Titanium and the virus scan gets to a certain file and won't go any further.

c:Program File...jaws.jar[PluginAudioClip.class]

I have un-installed Sun Java, un-installed, reinstalled AV program. I've done all I know to do and it still won't scan past that file. Been trying to figure this out all day.

hmm, can't help you since I don't know that program, but did you try removing the file (move it to a floppy or something) and checking to see if it freezes somewhere else? Also try an individual scan on that file and see if it does it, maybe some virus can do that or something.

I scanned it, just can't get rid of it. Thought it would be gone when I uninstalled Sun Java.

I also un-installed the Media Player plugins, thinking that might do it. Tried to do some research on Java but it's way over my head. Funny thing is, it's been here all along and just now causing a problem. :grade11math:

Some anti-virus programs allow you to skip or ignore certain files when they do a scan. Not having heard of the one you're using, I don't know if it allows for this. Might be worth a try though

:grade11math: so are your trying to remove it or scann it?

there is a program out that will get rid of the files but it is highly not liked since it was bought a couple of years ago.

it is still good but most dont like the company that owns it. with some reasons i might add.

but this program is good. or the version i have is. it is called uninstaller and is owned by mcafee. but the version i have dont work on winxp so i cant say if it is good on that with their new version.

how ever there is a free one that will work on winxp look for this in a search site

RegCleaner, Jouni Vuorio

that is the name and the programer's name.

it is a good one and will do a lot of stuff he has a purchess one also.

i just can not remember his web site.

Hi Carpet Rodent...yeah, someone suggested skipping a file but I didn't have that option.

Hi, rovingcowboy... I was trying to get rid of the file but could not find it using the search feature. The only way I found it was searching jaws.jar, there it was. Sent it to the recycle bin, which caused the AV scanner to hang again when it scanned the bin. Deleted the file, scanned again, hit another file that caused a hang. I think there was 3 files I had to get rid of before the scan would complete. Maybe the files had been corrupted for some reason...I did scan them to see if they were infected.

Weird, since I've been using these 2 programs, AV and Sun, together for a long time. Pcs...go figure!
