We need something completely unique here that will keep people wanting to stay, regardless of number of people. Let's say demise would actually get all of ML[*] we need something that still makes people want to stay here.

Basically almost any shard is farm farm farm, get the items you want, make new char, farm some more, etc... we need something out of the ordinary that does not involve farming as much. Though I think simply the improved pvm makes farming more fun then a task, though at some point no matter what it will get repetitious, even once ML is all in. You can only kill chief paroxysmus so many times before it's like killing a DF over and over hoping for that orny. :P

While I'm not an expert at C# any suggestions taken will at least give ideas, and I can worry about the programming part later if it's something t hat proves too difficult.

[*] This sentence also known as "lets say hell would freeze over,"

I think the goal here is to find something that attracts people. Something unique that keeps people interested. For example, bosses or new enemies that are unique. Take a look at the humus minion. It has a special attack that no other monster has. This keep people happy and makes them think "Hmmm what other creatures can do stuff like this?". Quests keep players happy. Give them something to do in game besides sit at the bank or kill stuff. Make special crafting quests, kill quests, event quests whatever. I think a nice thing to add would be class quests. For example, each skill has some kind of quest attached to it. You have to do something in that skill (For example, cooking. You gather ingredients in special places, cook em up and hand em in. Your reward can be something like a gold trophee). People want things that will keep them interested. To sum it up, here's just a few possibilities:

-New enemies
-New bosses
-New items
-New dungeons
-New quests
-New storylines
-New skills/lands

Keep those in mind. Of course some are easier than others (Making a new item out of thin air is easier to make then raises a whole new island from the seas of brittania). You've also talked about making the shard balanced and listening to what your players suggest. This keeps the population happy.

in my opinion PvP will make people stay, an old server I used to play before the admin got married and shut it down we had a great Idea. everyone knows who ever has the best gear from hunting has a BIG advantage, and im not saying they always win just a big advantage. well what he wanted to do was try to make it where factions alone only crafted items and spell crafted items (how to get jewels) were allowed so it gives everyone the same chance to create there own shit and fight so ur not worried about oh shit he has that "deathspell" monster mace!!! I dunno iliked his idea but he dropped server before it was published ;(

"im stoned atm so this could be fucked so im sorry!"

Well one suggestion I can take from that then is, never get married.

Actually a duel arena where you are given a standard equip set would be pretty cool. Not sure how hard that would be to code but would definately be great. Some tourneys could include items while some would be a standard suit and wep based on class.

Some of the best ideas came from stoned people. I kind of like the pvp idea, but if you could somehow make it apply to anyone in fel and not just factions (Not everyone wants to join a faction).

The Virtues! I'd really like to pursue the title of "Avatar" :P

No, really. The virtues are an essential part of the "Ultima" series, people who have played not only UO but also "Ultima" know the role of the virtues in the storyline of the game and it will be REALLY COOL if we get these working. And I think itll be a challenge for even the strongest/most experianced players to become knights of all virtues, thus keeping them for longer ;)

And also: More quests. ML kinda offers that, but I'm talking about even MORE quests, some of them one-time only, with unique rewards (not needed to be overpowered items, might aswell be simply unique decos) AND nice plots behind them.

I remember a quest on one of the shards I previously played which involved wandering around 3/4 of malas, ilsh and fel just to talk to some ancient druids which then give you the secret of talking to beasts (ofcourse they tested your "pure heart and good will" first) then once again the previous procedure but wandering around talking to dragons and wolves, to sheep and snakes, etc. just to gather the nature beasts to protect the ancient yew trees from the undead legions (the story was like 20 pages long, im just summing it up).

Or a quest to unravel the secrets of Khaldun and the disappearance of the archeologists group. Or something else. I'm always ready to help with the plots and some ideas for these.

I want Jedis to walk around unarmed.
And when they meet a hostile, they'll go into war mode and equip their lightsabre.

And this time, the ressurection sound effect (Lightsabre sound, woo) plays. :3

Virtues would definately rock. Won't be easy to code though, but I definately want to look into it. Perhaps adding more functionability to some as well. Quests are hard to make, but I can look into it. If I can check the code of an existing quest and make a skeleton quest file then I can make lot of quests based on the same concept. Like go kill so many of these, bring me this, I give you this. etc.. and I could add randomization to what is given, so low chance of getting rare ingrediant or what not.

I personally would love to see previous things in uo have new uses. Take for example executioner caps. They exist in uo, but they don't actually have a purpose. You could use them to make special foods or potions or something.

Aswell as blackrock, brimstone, dragon's blood, wyrm's heart, dead wood, etc.

These were reagents once (or so the story says) but got substituted by the nowadays mage reagents.

Would be cool to see them in use tho, like the FoA (followers of Armageddon) used blackrock (or was it brimstone) to make the entire lost lands have that "funky" look...

Hmm if the art for them is still available in the client, this can easily be added. Could make them randomly show up while lumberjacking or something.

It would follow a story as well. I was reading some uo stories before on uo reagents and possibilities of their uses. I'll see if I can find that link.

Ya that's the one. Some interesting ideas.

They're definitely in the client because I've seen them shoed on some shelves in mage's shops and others. And dead wood even spawns as stealable item in herbalists' chests on osi.

Deadwood used to spawn on reapers. Not sure if it still does. I know they are still in the client. Back in the old days, mages used to sell them in their shops, but they never had uses. Would be neat to give em some uses.

Hell yea, the moonstones and the different phases of the two moons (if someone ever wondered what are felucca and trammel named after - these are the names of the two moons of sosaria)

The different phases of the moons meant different arrival place when teleporting between facets. But I think that itll nerf a big chunk of the current gameplay, as most activities are related to lots of facet-travelling and all...

Still, maybe a modification of some sort so that these can be encorporated?

A time when reds can go to trammel and PK people. Something like, a dark moongate appearing and people need to flee to their homes to protect themselves from the evil creatures of felucca. A dark side of Ultima.

Humility-Gained from helping Young Players
Valor-Gained from killing Champion Spawn creatures
Compassion-Gained from performing escorts
Honor-Gained from persuing your foe in honorable combat
Sacerfice-Gained from sacerficing your fame to a creature to release them from torment
Justice-Gained from killing Murderers. Amount gained is determined on their kill count.
Spirituality-This is a complex one: http://uo.stratics.com/content/virtues/spirit.shtml

That leaves Honesty. Honesty in OSI was never created.
