PSA: Ensure email address is valid

This is a message being sent to users of the following boards:

This is just a reminder that you should always ensure that your forum email address is up to date as it is the only way to prove that your account really is yours in the case of a password reset.

I am considering combining all 4 of those forums into a single forum or central authentication account (same idea as "google account" minus the spying/tracking).  No immediate plans yet, it is simply brainstorming at this point, but whatever I do decide to go with, it will require an up to date email address for your account to work on the new system.  It is very likely that it will require a password reset once the new system goes live.

The reason I am considering this is to consolidate management of these 4 forums and make it more centralized.  Will make my life easier, and everyone's experience better so it's win win.

Just remember, there are no immediate plans yet, this is mostly just a PSA to ensure your email is properly up to date as any major transformation I do will most likely require a password reset.

I am just bumping this as a reminder that I will begin work in the next few months to combine the forums.  I will leave uo uovalor.com because it is only really there for historical purposes and is no longer active.  (the shard is no longer in operation)

However iceteks.com, anythingforum.com and uogateway.com forums will all be combined into a single forum.  There is a pretty good chance that the password will need to be reset as there will not be a way to convert the password over given it is hashed using a 1 way algorthm. (we are 100% against storing passwords in clear text)

Also, your shard listings will also be part of this same account.  No more having a separate account for everything, it will all be centrally managed under 1 account.  So it is important that your shard listing accounts are also up to date. Chances are if you used a different email for shard listing than you did for the forum you'll still end up with two accounts but you'll have to just pick one and use it, or I may offer an option to combine them. That is details I have not looked at yet.

The key is ensuring email addresses are valid though, as any type of password reset or account combine will require that you can access the mailbox associated with the account.  We will not do "favors" as there is no way to prove that an account really belongs to the person PMing me or what not.

This whole change is probably only going to happen by Christmas or even after.  I will bump this again when the time is nearer.  This whole transformation will require lot of testing in dev and test before it's pushed the live.  The forum posts will all have to be converted to the new format and combined into a single forum DB as well.  Chances are PMs will be lost, but I'll see when it gets to that if I think it's worth keeping them.

I figure I should be able to have it done by early new year.  The plan is to also eventually tie the UO Gateway shard listing into the same account for a single login experience.
