My city declared a state of emergency

Post by Red Squirrel »

Lot of forest fires in the area. The wind shifted and one is headed straight for us. It's still very far so the danger of the fire itself reaching us is not there yet, but the smoke is so thick that it is at a point where it can cause health issues for certain people.

It was much worse earlier today, these were taken around 5:30/May 24th (today)

It's been crazy dry here so there is no break for the fire fighters. Kudos to them for the work they are doing. They have their hands unbelievably full right now. The wind is really not helping.

There's a smaller town near here that is about ready to evacuate due to a separate fire, though last I heard it's a bit more under control. We're not at a point of evacuating yet, but they have some shelters setup for people with breathing problems. In the last few hours it seems to be somewhat clearing up though, the wind is not as strong as it was earlier this afternoon.

It's just so surreal to see the sky like this. Feels like a movie or something.

Some pics of the actual fire here:

My city declared a state of emergency

I hope they get it corralled before it gets to more populated areas. Forest fires in Canada seems like a strange thing to me, but I suppose it can get just as dry up there as it can anywhere else. Also, your Days Inn looks like a Siberian tenement with a sign on top of it. Very dreary.
