Speeding Up Dungeon Chest Respawn Rate
Speeding Up Dungeon Chest Respawn Rate
As the title says, I believe that the respawn/reset timer for locked treasure chests in dungeons should be drastically reduced.
I, like many others, truly love the fact that the chests actually give decent loot on here. It brings back so many memories of long ago. However, I find it rather boring to have to wait so very long for the chests to reset.
While the chests aren't as dangerous as the monsters that are around them, it is still dangerous for a lock picker to wander in such areas. I find it hardly worth the effort of having a fully suited lock picker to do chests when their rates are so slow.
Please vote in the poll so the staff can get a reasonable idea of what people think. Thanks

I can't decide what to vote on this honestly.
Most of the time I ever check them they're all reset, so clearly they're not being done very often.
When they ARE being done by a few people then yes, the respawn is pretty annoyingly slow.
My main issue with them is there's basically 1 area (x2 if you count tram and fel) with decent enough chests to bother doing. Then there's maybe 1 or 2 places with chests that I personally don't consider worth doing, but some people might. And everywhere else has nothing or has chests with 100-200 gold (woo!). There's some places that I think definitely SHOULD spawn higher level chests but have little or no dungeon chest spawn. Level 3 covetous for example. Ditto for similar places. If it's difficult or deadly to get to I think it deserves a decent chest spawn. So really, I think the issue isn't fast respawn, just more of them, more widely distributed. (Though I wouldn't feel bad about faster respawn either.)

Agreed on the 2 places worth doing...i have taken ages getting to level 4 and 5 of some dungeons and found nothing.....
What is the spawn time for the better chests?
Ive not been doing them long enough to take note....

Also some good ideas. Adding overall more chests would be a reasonable coarse of action too I feel.ggkthx wrote:I can't decide what to vote on this honestly.

Speeding Up Dungeon Chest Respawn Rate
I said to leave it alone but increase loot. But I think what was previously mentioned is a good idea, with widespread chest spawns. But perhaps scale the spawn rate with the chest intensity. The high end ones would be left as is, and then the spawn rates would scale down from there.
At any rate, the chests were always something that it would take me 20 minutes to do, then I'd go hunting or something. I never made it something that I would try to camp or cycle through. They offer some pretty good loot, so it is understandable why the timers were set so long.
Also, I think that there were supposed to be more spawns set up, but more important things arose, and it drifted to the backburner. I don't think that the current sporadic areas was intended.

It was indeed, one of those things that got set on the back burner and kind of forgotten.
There are tons of areas that need to have chests put in but that would barely be scratching the surface. We decided one day to make dungeon chests something that would benefit thieves and lockpickers and add a great bonus to that class. There's still a ton more we want to add but haven't had time to.
It might be a good idea to start up a new thread with requests and suggestions for improved dungeon chests. I don't want to hijack this topic though.

I won't be offended if you "hijack" it. I am all for an open discussion on how to further develop and improve the dungeon chest system.Death wrote:It was indeed, one of those things that got set on the back burner and kind of forgotten.

Alright then. Here were a few ideas that were not added in:d. wrote: I won't be offended if you "hijack" it. I am all for an open discussion on how to further develop and improve the dungeon chest system.
- Improving the loot tables to offer more in terms of basic items (Gold, magic items, etc etc)
- Improving the respawn rate of chests in dungeons
Other ideas
Each dungeon would have chests that span levels depending on how far down you go into the dungeon. Easier level chests would have no traps or low damage traps. These would also be easier to lockpick and disarm. The harder level chests would have powerful traps and be harder to open and disarm.
There would be different rewards. A neat idea would be to have a unique reward that pertains to a certain dungeon. For example, chests in the labyrinth would contain something related to the minotaur or could possibly have items that relate to the dungeon itself.
In terms of basic rewards, players should post any ideas they have.

Speeding Up Dungeon Chest Respawn Rate
I've got a few ideas on a possible revamp of dungeon chests.
I do like how they are now, but, in my opinion, they seem a bit unrealistic.
What I asked myself was, "What would be contained in a chest in a dungeon?"
One: A monster's hoard of loot taken from failed adventurers.
Two: A player's hoard of items taken from and useful for continued dominance of the spawn.
So my though was to change the "treasure chests" to "hoards", and to have them unique to the style and level of spawn surrounding that area.
We already have the town chests that have rare and, in some cases, unique, spawns in regard to what store they spawn in. So I think that why should dungeon chests be any different? It would be a tremendous, in my mind, an amount of work. But then again, I know nothing of coding.
What I would think is that there is a set of levels regarding intensity. Which would include difficulty of spawn and level of dungeon, as well as what, locally, the spawn is.
Then there would be a set regarding what skill-set that spawn would involve. Is it a casting, melee, etc type spawn? On the other side, what would warriors hoard to battle this particular beast?
So, I was thinking that there would be two types of chests. Monster Hoards and Hunter Hoards. Both would hold unique types of items regarding what style of beast inhabited whatever the region held, and what offensive method the beast used to defend their territory. (i.e. Lich hoards would have magery related items and ogres would have melee related items)

I am not sure how it works when coding for the loot, but the chests do need to have the very low end stuff pulled out, especialy the trillions of bonnets and hats....
Nice idea with the "slain warrior" loot chest and was something i mentioned in my Ancient Wrym adventure.....
I was quite shocked to find him sat on 140ish gold lol....
Shooting myself in the foot here but again i was surpised that there were no traps on the chests, i dont think you should have 1 hit traps (i only wear my newbie clothes when doing the chests) but i do think the harder chests should have some sort of trap on it...
Ability to break your lockpick and something along the lines of "Your pick breaks and you make a metalic scratching noise, alerting the Ancient wrym to your presence"
Suicide i know but if you make the loot worth the risks then its all good.....

Just for info here....
I was wandering around the Desert in the lost lands, looking to see if the Sphynx was active on this server.
I came across 8 high level (lootwise) chests
Came away with a Dark Father Killer Talisman +100%
2 lucky necklace
And a Hooded shroud....
Looks like another area that has had the treatment

Just one more thing, i personaly think the respawn time should be random to deter chest farming...
Gives us all a chance.....
Especialy if the loot and locations are upped

Hmm, interesting. Only high level chests I had found before were in the bottom of Despise in Fel and Tram. Bottom of Hyloth had some maybe level 3 or 4 chests from what I could tell.
