UOSA client spellbooks and runebooks

Post by dprantl »

So it is very interesting playing on TC1 with the UOSA client. It is almost perfect, except for the fact that Spellbooks and Runebooks (and probably other books) cannot currently be opened. Could we get a fix for this? It is working fine on other RunUO shards so I assume the fix should be easy to find and implement.

Thanks for checking that out, something we overlooked during patch compatibility. We'll see what we can do about getting that fixed up.

Thanks for checking. Is that the newer 3D client, or the 2D one? It seems to be working for me in the 2D client. Though I have not patched in a while so maybe they broke something again. They've been bad for that lately. :o:

Well, it's not UOKR, I don't think that's even supported anymore as of Sept. 2009. I am talking about the UOSA client, otherwise known as the "Enhanced Client". Is that what you meant by 3D vs. 2D? I am currently running version 4.0.16.2. Up until a few weeks ago, that was the latest version available. When clicking on a spell book, for example, the gump appears but is empty. Then the book disappears from your inventory, and the only way to see it again is to reload the interface (Ctrl-R). Double-clicking on Runebooks doesn't do anything. Double-clicking on an ordinary book brings up the gump and displays some pages, but not all.

Oh ok yeah currently that is not supported, but given most things DO work, I'm thinking it may not be that hard to support it. I do recall having to change spell book packets for them to work in the normal client, so I'm guessing it may be that fix that broke it in that client.

EA has made and ditched many 3D/alternative clients, but if this one actually sticks around, then we may definitely consider it.

2D Client is also known as the "Classic Client" which is the original UO client.

The new 3D client is known as the "Enhanced Client" which was introduced sometime after the UOKR client was scrapped and UOSA was introduced.

The shard has always been designed for the original UO classic client, which is our focus. This is the client the shard recommends playing with for the time being.

Supporting the enhanced client is something new that we haven't had to do before so some of the features may not be supported until we implement support for the new client.

It would be nice to support both clients in the future as the enhanced client contains very useful features that the classic client does not have. For now, however, the enhanced client is not fully supported and will require more research concerning interactions with custom AOV content and runuo fixes before we can support it here.

That's cool. But like I said, pretty much everything else works, just this one thing with books is not working, and since RunUO production builds have it working, it is probably not hard to pick up the fix.

Are you using the UOSA loader to connect? Are you able to do so with the highest build (4.0.18.0). I'm unable to connect with the most recent build (4.0.18.0) so wondering if it's a connection issue or if the highest client isn't supported with the loader.

If I can launch the client I can take a look at what's not working with the new client and the possibility of supporting it in the future.

I usually patch the client myself as the loaders have not been working. I'll PM you.
