Server backups and Saves

Is it possible to lessen the amount of saving? The server seems like its constantly saving and more often than not you'll die right after the save, specially if you're doing a boss or something..

About server backups, is it possible to move the backup to right before or right after the server restarts also? So its not right in the middle of when people might be farming or in the middle of a boss fight? haha!

We can check to see if the saves are set to emergency saving. It usually does that if the server has crashed or has encountered a problem. When that happens, the save time becomes twice as fast in order to prevent data loss. If such is the case, we can set them back to normal saving time.

As for world saving and backups, red is currently modifying runuo to use his new storage app and snapshot system. If this system works efficiently, there will no longer be active world saves to interrupt gameplay, it will all be passive (Game will save, but players won't notice it).

I just checked and the saves are not on emergency mode. The backup job runs very late at night when there is probably nobody on, and it should not really affect much if anyone is in fact on. Do you actually notice any lag when you get the message that says the backups are running?

With the new storage system both saves and backups will be done in a way that it will not affect game play. I am hoping to actually release this by the end of this month if all goes well, but there is still enough work and testing to do, so I can't promise anything.

Yeah it lags during server back-up. I never have any problem with saves though... when it does save EVERYTHING freezes, so its not like your frozen and the mobs or whatever you happen to be fighting kills you. But eh, can get annoying when the saves take forever but they haven't lately. Least not while I've been on.

Actually one thing, the Windows box is due for a reboot, that may help things a bit. Windows is not meant to stay up that long without a reboot. Think it has not rebooted in over a year. Surprised it never blue screened or something. :

nearly mid july dude - couple of days eh'.
To bad my accounts will all be gone and lag is about 100 times worse then when i used to play on here
